국문 초록

이 논문은 남해군에 구비전승되는 설화를 대상으로 가족관계망 속에 내재한 가족정서를 살핀 것이다. 방법은 가족관계망 속에서도 서사의 중심축을 형성하는 주요인물의 이야기에 중점을 두고, 가족 간의 갈등과 공조(共助)가 바탕이 되어 결말에 이르는 서사 진행의 전후 측면과 구연자의 인식을 살폈다. 그리고 이를 통해 설화공동체 속에 내면화된 가족에 대한 집단의 정서를 도출해 보았다. 먼저 가족관계망의 기본이 되는 부부이야기에는 공동체의 안정을 위해 요구되는 것이 있는데, 그것은 아내의 능동적 헌신이다. 남해군 설화의 부부이야기 대부분은 애초에 결핍을 안고 시작되는데, 이 결핍을 해소하고 가정의 안정을 도모하기 위해 요구되는 것이 바로 아내의 무조건적인 공조를 바탕으로 한 능동적 헌신인 것이다. 이 요구가 순조롭게 받아들여지면 공동체 모두가 만족스럽고 안정을 유지하는 반면, 아내의 부정적 대응이 이어지면 공동체는 분노에 휩싸이며 파국을 맞는다. 두 번째로 아들이야기에는 혈연승계의 필연성과 이를 통한 상생(相生)의 지속이 요구된다. 이를 위해 부모와 아들 간에는 상호보완적인 공조가 긴밀하게 이루어지는데, 유산상속과 효행을 통해 상생하고 있다. 때문에 이들 간에는 매우 긍정적인 정서가 유지되며, 특히 아들의 공조는 부모의 사후까지도 책임지는 필수불가결한 요소로 인식되고 있다. 세 번째로 딸이야기에는 출가외인 담론의 고수로 인한 애증의 교착상태가 감지된다. 이는 여성의 통과의례에 수반되는 사회적 통념에 기반한 것으로 양자 간의 인식 차이에서 비롯된다. 이로 인해 설화 속 부모와 딸 사이에는 갈등만 있을 뿐 공조가 전혀 이루어지지 못하고 있다. 네 번째로 며느리이야기에는 가족중심적 배타성과 온전한 가족통합을 꿈꾸는 포용성이라는 양가감정(兩價感情)이 표출되고 있다. 배타성이 한국설화의 보편적인 양상이라면, 포용성은 고립된 도서민(島嶼民)이 주어진 여건 안에서 화합과 안정을 도모코자 모색한 삶의 한 방식이라고 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study examines family affection inherent in family network based on the transmission of oral epic tales in Namhae-gun. The methodology focused on the stories of main characters who constructed a central axis of narration in the relational net of family. Moreover, the thesis considers the whole process of the narrative from various aspects based on the stories that emerged from conflicts and the mutual assistance among family members. By doing so, a conclusion has been drawn relating to a collective affection inherent in family community. First of all, in the tales of married couples, a basic of the relational family net, there was a full of devotion the wife for a sustainable community. Most tales related to married couples in Namhae-gun started with a some kind of lack in somewhere in the couple's life, and such insufficiencies required a wife’s voluntary dedication and unconditional support to her family in order to alleviate scarcity. If the wife acted so, the community would be satisfied or even take it for granted and things would follow their normal course but if ever the wife was to act otherwise the community would fly into a violent anger that would likely end up by collapsing it. Secondly, in the tales of Sons, there needed to be a necessity of succession by blood relation and a continuity of coexistence through it. To do so, an intimate complementary cooperation dwelt between parents and son through succession to property and filial obedience. Therefore, strong positive affection used to seal the parents and son relation. Furthermore, a support to parents was construed as an imperative element for the son, who was also expected to take responsibility for post management of his parents. Thirdly, in the tales of Daughters, there seemed to be a deadlock created by a feeling of love and hatred due to a discourse of‘being excluded from family’. This was based on social convention including the rite of passage from young girl to women, which was caused by perception difference between the two periods. There was nothing else but conflicts between parents and daughter due to the abovementioned reasons, and no cooperative work was expected. Fourthly, in the tales of Daughter-in-laws, it existed emotional ambivalence that evolved around family-centered exclusiveness and a sense of tolerance for family integration. If such exclusiveness is a universal aspect of the Korean tale, a sense of magnanimity is a way of a life that sought for harmony and peace by isolated islander.
