국문 초록

양축설화는 사랑을 위해서라면 함께 죽을 수 있다는 고대 여성들의 정절관념이 강하게 반영된 작품이다. 뿐만 아니라 봉건사회일지라도 자유연애에 대한 강한 열망이 담겨있음을 알 수 있다. 동시에 유교사상의 구속에 대한 비판도 읽을 수 있다. 양축설화가 단편적인 애정설화이면서도 그 안에 내포된 뜻은 지극히 심각하고 거대하다. 그러므로 중국의 여러 지역이나 민족, 그리고 한국까지 유전되면서 많은 이본이 생겨날 수 있었던 것이다. 중국과 한국은 전통적으로 문화교류가 왕성했다. 따라서 양축설화의 유입도 이른 시기에 있었을 것으로 짐작된다. 한국의 양축설화는 유전되는 과정에서 변화를 겪어 중국의 양축설화와 변별력을 갖게 되었다. 이는 양축설화의 한국화라 할 수 있다. 즉 주인공의 성격 변화는 물론, 주요화소가 이탈ㆍ첨가되면서 한국적인 정서를 담게 되었다. 이것은 한국의 사회풍속이 반영되어 나타난 결과라 할 수 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 한국과 중국의 양축설화는 봉건사상에 대한 비판, 유교사상에 대한 고발 등의 공통점을 가지고 있다. 이는 기존 작품의 장처를 그대로 계승한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 그러나 구성의 변화나 묘사의 단조로움 등은 한국의 문화적 풍토가 반영된 것이라 할 수 있다. 설화는 시간의 흐름에 따라 많은 작품이 사라지고 있다. 하지만 양축설화는 여전히 중시될 뿐만 아니라 다양한 방식으로 유전되고 있다. 현대사회는 빠른 발전만큼이나 젊은 사람들의 사랑에 대한 태도도 경솔한 것이 사실이다. 양축설화를 여유를 가지고 감상하면 경솔한 마음을 성찰할 수 있음은 물론 애정관도 새롭게 정립될 수 있으리라 본다.

영문 초록

The story of Butterfly Lovers reflects the strong sense of chastity, implicates the desire for the freedom to love in a feudal society, and contains the criticism of the trammel by Confucianism. Even though the Butterfly Lover story is only a short love story, the meaning inside is extremely profound. Therefore, the lots of story versions propagated widely in different Chinese districts and ethnics, even there are several story versions in Korea. From the past till present, china and Korea has had close cultural communication, hence the Butterfly Lovers story has also been known in Korea for a very long time and can be seen as koreanized. The main change comes from the main characters' personalities, which can be seen to be based on Korean culture. The adjustment to the main content is also said to be a reflection of the Korean society and Korean culture. Not only this, the criticism of the feudal system as well as the strict Confucian teachings is also a common point in both the Korean and the Chinese story versions. These are the connotations and meanings that the story brings across to its audience. However, structural changes or a simplified description can also be a reflection of the Korean cultures and customs. Many traditional stories disappeared with time going, but the Butterfly Lover story still receives much attention and propagated in many ways. With rapid development of modern society, the attitude of love from young people is becoming more and more indiscreet, free and arbitrary. However, the historic and meaningful Butterfly Lover story seems to be helpful on the rethinking of this attitude and establishing a better love concept.
