국문 초록

이 논문은 <박보실긔>와 <쇼듕화역셜>의 '박태보일화'를 중심으로 전기소설과 역사서사의 관계에 대해 비교 연구한 것이다. 두 작품은 동일한 소재를 바탕으로 이루어졌으며, 모두 1916년에 간행 혹은 필사되었다. 역사적 사실에 대한 당시 독자층의 호기심은 이러한 독서물이 인기리에 유통되도록 하였다. 박태보는 인현왕후의 폐비 문제를 반대하는 상소를 올렸다가 숙종의 노여움을 사 참혹한 친국을 당하면서도 간언을 올리다 죽음을 맞은 인물이다. 독자들은 이러한 충신의 이야기에 열광하였고 이것을 소재로 다양한 장르가 재생산되기에 이르렀다. 먼저 <박보실긔>는 박태보의 어린 시절과 환로에서의 이야기를 통해 그의 강직한 성품을 부각하였고, 주변 인물의 꿈 이야기를 활용하여 복선 장치를 마련하기도 하였다. 또한 친국 장면에서는 대화체와 묘사의 방법을 구사하여 소설적 형상화를 이루었다. 박태보를 오직 충신으로 부각하기 위한 목적으로 전체 서사를 진행하고 있으며, 이로써 그의 교훈적인 면모가 집중적으로 드러난다. 반면에 <쇼듕화역셜>의 '박태보일화'는 분량의 제약 때문에 친국 장면만을 다룬다. 그러나 당시 사건의 인과 관계를 보여 주어 기사환국과 관련한 여러 인물에 대해 유용한 정보를 제공하고 있다. 작가가 역사적 안목을 바탕으로 유의미한 사건을 선택하고 배열하면서 박태보의 충신 이야기를 삽입하고 있는 것이다. 사실의 이해와 문학적 효용의 관점에서 두 작품 모두 주목할 만하다. 이러한 작품이 활발하게 유통되던 20세기 초반 독자와 작가의 관계를 파악할 수 있으며, 이를 바탕으로 당시 역사적 사건을 소재로 한 독서물의 사정 또한 짐작할 수 있다. 이들 작품의 작가는 실존인물의 실상을 독자들에게 정확하게 전달하고 그것을 교훈 삼게 하려는 창작의도를 가지고 있었다. 한편 독자층은 작품 속 주인공이 가진 삶의 가치에 열렬히 동조하였다. 역사서사는 전기소설에 소재적 측면으로 작용하였을 뿐만 아니라 동일한 시기 훌륭한 독서물로 유통되어 양자가 더불어 향유되었음을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

This dissertation examined biographical narratives and historical narratives focusing on ParkTaebosilgi and Park Taebo Ilhwa in Sojunghwayeokdaeseol. The two works are formed based on the same subject matter, and were actively circulated by attracting the interest of the public during the early 20th century. ParkTaebosilgi was published in 1916, and Park Taebo Ilhwa in Sojunghwayeokdaeseol was transcribed in the same year, thus, the curiosity of readers regarding a historical incident at the time can be said to have appeared through the popularity of such publications. Park Taebo encountered death by saying remonstrating words to fulfill his duty as a servant until the end, while suffering direct interrogations by the King Sukjong, due to arousing the anger of the King Sukjong by opposing the disposal of Queen Inhyeon. The story of such a loyal servant was an adequate subject matter for reading, thus, was reproduced in various genres. The entire narrative of ParkTaebosilgi was undertaken only for the purpose of expressing Park Taebo as a loyal subject. The story focused on revealing instructive aspects of the character after setting a historical being that actually existed as the main character. On the other hand, Park Taebo Ilhwa in Sojunghwayeokdaeseol inserts the story of Park Taebo by selecting and organizing the meaningful incidents based on the author's historical perspective. The two works are both worth of attention from the perspective of factual understanding and literary utility. The relationship between the readers and author at the time in which the works were actively circulated can be understood. Moreover, it is possible to presume the conditions in which the books using historical incidents as subject matters were written in early 20th century based on such. The authors of the works show a creative will to deliver maximum accuracy of truth to readers regarding a human being that existed in real life and to enable readers to take such truth as a lesson. On the other hand, the public enjoying the work fervently sympathized with the value of life of the main character. While the historical narrative was applied to the biographical narrative from a subject-matter perspective, it can be assumed that the two works were enjoyed in a supplementary manner, as the works were circulated as outstanding reading materials during the same time period.
