국문 초록

헝가리 현대 문학을 대표하는 작가 외르케니 이슈트반(Örkény István, 1912-1979)은 일찍이 문단에 등단하였으나, 유배와도 같았던 해외 생활과 구 소련에서 5년간 전쟁포로로 지내는 등 평탄하지 않은 청•장년 시절을 보냈다. 귀국 후에는 활발한 문학 활동에도 불구하고 정치적 격변의 소용돌이 속에서 오랜 시간 작품 활동에 제약을 받기도 했다. 이런 불우한 운명 속에서도 그 특유의 해학과 번득이는 재치가 가득한 작품들로 1960년대 이후에는 헝가리를 대표하는 작가의 반열에 올라서게 되며, 1969년 파리에서 블랙코미디대상(Grand Prix de l'Humour Noir)를 받는 등 국제적으로도 널리 명성을 떨치게 된다. 『장미박람회(Rózsakiállítás)』는 외르케니 생전 마지막으로 완성을 본 소설 작품이다. 이 소설은 살아 있는 모든 이들이 한 번은 겪게 되는 '죽음'을 모티브로 하며, 죽어가는 세 명의 등장인물을 묘사한 옴니버스식의 소설인데, 형식적으로는 메타 시나리오라 불리어도 손색이 없을 만큼 촬영의 과정을 담고 있다. 본고에서는 기존의 분석, 즉 단순한 이 소설의 소재로서의 '죽음'을 뛰어 넘어, '죽음'을 예술의 원초적이고 본질적인 것, 거리낌 없이 표현되어야 하지만 터부시 되는 것, 지금껏 방해 받고 억압 받아 온 소재, 관습을 벗고 직시해야 할 것에 대한 메타포(metafora)로 해석을 하여 해석을 하여 이 작품의 내•외적으로 나타나 있는 검열-자기 검열의 메시지를 살펴보았다. 이에 앞서 아직 국내에서는 한 번도 소개되지 않은 내용이기에 한 장을 할애하여 헝가리의 검열사를 간략하게 살펴보았다.

영문 초록

Flower Show is the novel for all lives' death once they suffer, but cannot be familiar with it at all. The characters in this novel faced to their deaths in front of camera shot by the step of a television program. This novel shows the stories of the remains described as a viewpoint of humanity and this work is one of Örkény's masterpieces. This paper can be devided two parts. One is for describing about the censorship and self-censorship and the other is for analyzing this novel, so this paper is not only for focusing to analyze the novel. Many famous writers like Dante, Boccaccio, Geoffrey Chaucer, Goethe, George Orwell, and even James Joyce whose work was selected as the best novel of the 20th century by scholars and reviewers in America could not avoid the censorship from the authorities including governments which wanted to hold their courses for literature. It is needless to say that the actual problem from this is the writers could not express themselves as they intended. In case of Hungary, they also took experiences concerning to the history of censorship with other european countries. But considering their history they should suffered double censorship from the hungarian authorities, and the upper power as well like Habsburg or others. I don't and I can't deny the main motive of this novel is related to death as everybody may accept it who read this novel. In this paper, rather I tried to analyze this novel based on the censorship and self-censorship. To prove it, I examined the background of story writing, some parts of this novelwhere I can assume and the interviews once given by the writer.
