미주지역 디아스포라 시문학의 양상

국문 초록

1970-1980년대 미주지역 문단의 정립은 문학장의 본격적 작동, 이주 현실의 미학적 내재화 등 다양한 의미를 포함하는 중층적 사건이다. 그 결과 재미한인 시단은 지역을 중심으로 단체를 형성하고, 동인지 및 기관지 성격의 매체를 통해 활동이 지속되고 있다. 이는 그 자체로 재미한인 문단의 특성이자 구조적 한계로서의 양가적 의미를 지닌다. 『재미시인선집』(1975)은 재미 시단에서 활자 형태를 갖추고 본격 출판된 최초의 공동 시집이다. 『선집』은 미주지역 최초의 동인지 『지평선』(1973)의 동인 구성을 그대로 이어받고 있으며, 참여 시인들은 이후 재미한인 시단의 전개에 있어서 중추적 역할을 담당하게 된다. 재미한인 디아스포라 시문학의 핵심적 요소는 이산에 대한 의식, 장소성의 전유 양상 등이라 할 수 있다. 『선집』을 포함한 정립기 재미한인 시문학 속에는 이중적 정체성에 대한 인식, 그에 연동되는 실존적 배경의 불안, 나아가 비판과 순응이 교착된 양가성 등이 부각된다. 또한 장소의 전유 양상과 관련해서는 전지구적 공간 배경, 이중적 장소성, 장소의 내면화 등이 특징적이다. 이들은 재미한인 디아스포라 시문학의 전형적인 내용과 형식을 구성하고 있다. 『선집』 등의 정립기 매체와 미주지역 디아스포라 한글 시문학은 한국문학의 외연을 확장하고 총량을 확정하는 데 있어서의 문학사적 의미를 지닌다. 이들 매체는 최대 이민국가인 미국에서 본격적 한인문단을 형성하는 단초가 된다. 근대문학 초기로부터 형성되는 한국시와 미국의 관계 계보에 있어서 1970년대의 공백을 잇고 있다는 점 역시 지역 단위를 넘어서는 문학사적 의의라 하겠다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes the Korean poetry in the States from the perspective of diaspora. The recent growth in the Korean literature’s publication abroad demands the perspective of diaspora in the States. This paper attempts to explore the various levels of meanings of the Korean poetry published in the States in light of the Korean diaspora. In particular, the paper focuses on JAEMISIINSEONJIP(『在美詩人選集』, 1975) and the Korean poetry in the 1970’s and 1980’s, the establishment period of the Korean-American field of literature. The formality of factionalism in that field sometimes entailed the aesthetic deficiency. The topics of Korean-American poetic literature are related to the experience of diaspora: the hardship of the immigrant lives, the identity questions, and the search for the placeness. Diaspora involves not only the direct territorial immigration to another country, but also the systemic imposition of the alien’s culture. Ambivalence is a key feature of the immigrant situation in which the experiences in the home countries still continue to influence the immigrants and at the same time are totally cut off. such ambivalence inevitably results from diaspora. The Korean-American poetry is characterized by the dual meaning of the spacial attitude. Its typical examples are the poetic attributes which are the appropriate spirit of the place.
