해외거주 한국화교의 한국어 사용현황 연구

국문 초록

한국에는 어느 곳에도 속하지 않은 제3의 문화, 좀 더 엄밀히 말하면 한국화교라는 이름으로 자신을 호명하고 있는 사람들이 있다. 다중언어 사용의 역사적 배경에서 알 수 있듯이 소위 다문화인인 이들은 자신을 특정문화에 소속시키려 하지 않는다. 언어 역시 마찬가지여서, 어렸을 때부터 배웠던 한국어와 중국어, 현재 거주하는 지역의 언어 중에서 어느 것도 우선시하지 않는다. 따라서 그들의 말에 공통적으로 담겨 있는 한국어의 특징은 다문화인의 의식을 지배하고 있는 한국어 모델의 한 유형으로 제시하는 데 적절할 것으로 사료되는바, 본고는 한국화교 9명의 인터뷰 자료를 분석하여, 이들의 언어적 특징을 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 영어, 중국어, 한국어를 섞어 말을 하는 다중언어사용자의 전형적인 모습을 보였으며, 특정 어휘를 정확하게 표현하거나 강조하거나, 또는 감정적 태도를 드러내는 언어운용상의 기술로서 코드전환을 사용하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 문법적인 면에서는 한국어의 경어법 체계를 잊지 않았으며, 담화표지, 도치구문의 화용적 특징 역시 한국인과 비슷한 분포를 보이었다. 그러나 세부적으로는 차이를 지녀 이를 유목민인 ‘한국 화교’만의 특징으로 정리하였다. 이는 한국화교의 계층별 다양한 언어 자료를 분석하고 그리고 세계 여러 곳에 흩어져 사는 이주 한국인의 언어 자료를 분석함으로써 확충될 것이다.

영문 초록

The objective of this study was to examine what linguistic characteristics they come to have when Chinese Koreans who, as bilingual speakers, acquired the Korean language have long been in a language environment other than the Korean language. According to the results, they used code-switching when they should convey their opinions clearly, and they used the Chinese language in describing emotions or making emotional expressions. Thus, their characteristic as multi cultural people who wanted to be called Chinese Koreans rather than Koreans or Chinese was observed in their choice of vocabulary. In the grammatical aspect as well, the selective use of subject honorific speech was characteristic, and in the pragmatic aspect, the inversion of subjects, objects, adverbs and the insertion of discourse marker was used only as a tool for enhancing the informativeness of messages rather than for the speaker’s empathy and this was a characteristic distinct from Korean people. These are considered the linguistic characteristics of ‘Chinese Koreans’ who are nomads born in Korea and migrating around different countries. By analyzing various language data of Chinese Koreans by class and studying the language data of Korean immigrants around the world, we expect to describe their linguistic characteristics integratively in the aspects of pidginization and creolization.
