국문 초록

이 논문은 조선후기 관료문인 默拙齋 李華鎭의 생애와, 여주 이씨 가문의 문헌록인 『驪江世稿』에 수록된 그의 시세계를 검토하기 위하여 집필 된 것이다. 이화진은 고조부 이하 4대가 모두 조정 관료를 지낸 사대부 가문에서 태어나 어려서부터 관계로 진출하려는 뜻을 품고 과거공부에 열중하였다. 23세에 진사가 되었으나 48세에 이르러서야 대과에 급제하여 68세로 致仕할 때까지 주로 言官과 지방관을 역임하면서 政爭에 휘말리지 않고 민생의 안정과 국가보위에 진력하였다. 이화진의 시세계는 첫째 ‘자연 동경과 그 한계’, ‘둘째 적극적 현실 참여의식’, 셋째 ‘개방적 불교관’으로 나누어 논의하였는데 그가 자연을 완상하고 그 속에서의 삶을 동경하면서도 자연에 침잠하여 물아일체가 된 경지에 도달하지 못한 것은 현실 참여에의 의지가 확고했기 때문이다. 그의 시 가운데 불교와 관련된 詩語나, 불교적 세계관을 시적 모티브로 삼은 경우가 발견되는데 이는 조선 후기 사대부로서 사상적 개방성을 보여 준다는 점에서 사상사적으로 대단히 주목되는 사례인 것으로 판단된다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine a bureaucrat and literary man Mokjulje Yi Hwajin (默拙齋 李華鎭) in late Joseon and his poetic world included in familial anthology Yeogangseogo(『驪江世稿』) Yi was born in an aristocrat family whose family worked with central government since his great-great-grand-father, and worked hard to advance to administrative position through passing the national exam. He became Jinsa in the age of 23, and passed Daegwa in 48. From that time on until his retirement from official career (致事) when he was 68 he made every effort to work mainly as public relation officer (言官) and local officials without being intertwined with political strife(政爭), and national protection. Yi Hwajin’s poetic world can be classified into three parts: first, ‘yearning for nature and its limitation’, second, ‘active participation in the reality,’ and third ‘open view of Buddhism’. He appreciated nature and yearning life in nature but he could not achieve any sense of culmination as he was too determined to participate in reality. Among his poems, there are some poetic words and poetic motive with view of Buddhism world. It seems an important case to show ideological openness of a bureaucrat in late Joseon dynasty.
