박태원의 해방 전 모더니즘 텍스트에는 거의 강박적으로 동어반복되는 행복에의 선망이 ‘단란한 식탁’과 ‘백화점’의 기표로 제시되고 있어 소설의 여성화라고 할 만하다. 작중인물들이 갈망하는 행복의 척도로서 가정과 백화점은 여성들의 생산/소비의 현장이며 양자의 밀고 당김이 내적/외적, 사적/공적 공간의 대립으로 서사적 긴장을 조성하고 있는 것이다. 박태원 소설의 여성화는 속물적인 부르주아사회를 비판하고자 근대의 표상으로 여성적 나르시시즘과 일탈적 여성숭배를 제시해, 이것이 얼핏 가부장제의 균열처럼 읽힐 여지가 없지 않으나 결과적으로는 재남성화된 반페미니즘이라고 하겠다. 즉 여성적 나르시시즘과 젠더 경계 허물기는 여성적 남성댄디/팜므 파탈, 아니마남성/아니무스여성의 도착적 섹슈얼리티 따위, 거기에 덧붙여 공포스러운 모성상을 보여주는데 그것의 서사전략은 두 가지로 요약할 수 있다. 말하자면 상식의 전도에서 오는 웃음이 그 하나요, 다른 하나는 성의 상품화와 자식을 삼키는 어머니를 통해 부정적 여성이미지로 반페미니즘을 드러냈다는 것이다.

영문 초록

I have examined the feminization of Park, Tae-won’s novels which were written before Korean Liberation in 1945. We have a right to point out the feminization of Park’s modernism texts. He had tried to criticize bourgeois of capitalism, using woman as a sign of the modern society. He repeatedly presents his envy of happiness in the texts, so the characters show us their unconsciousness about a happy family’s dinner table and the department store. These places are significant feminine chronotopes in his novels. The former is a female private space, the latter is a female public sphere where is paradigmatic to a male rambler’s street in the city. The feminization of Park, Tae-won’s novels is anti-feminism by remasculinization. There are feminine homo-sexual narcicism and worship of deviated-woman in Park’s texts, they may be a break of patriarchy on the face of them. Namely, feminine narcicism and obfuscating the gender describe feminine male-dandy/femme fatal, anima-man/animus-woman, sexual fixation, in addition to a terrible mother of devouring her child, etc. This narrating strategy of Park, Tae-won could be summarized as two aspects: the one is laughter resulted from perversion of common sense, the other is a sex as a commodity, and a negative maternity through his anti-feminism.
