영문 초록

In an era of both increasing globalization and localization, tourism development has become significant as instruments for mobilizing and promoting local economies. Tourism is regarded as the symbol of the local community’s renewed dynamism. In this context, this study was initiated as an attempt to discern how local residents can be effectively mobilized for the local tourism development. The purposes of this study are: (1) to explore the particular characteristics that determined the attribute of residents consciousness for the local tourism development; (2) to examine its propensity, and difference; and (3) to investigate any significant relationship among factors determining attribute of residents consciousness, and planning and management practices, toward developing local tourism development. This study examines the experiences of 291 residents who lived in Ulju region. The findings of this study will provide future policy makers with useful implications in tourism development planning and management.
