국문 초록

미술교육에서 학생들의 비평 활동을 지도하려 할 때 미술비평의 절차를 기술, 분석, 해석, 평가라는 4단계로 나눈 펠드먼의 이론이 이용된다. 이 논문은 미학의 관점에서 이러한 이론이 갖는 효용과 한계를 검토한 것이다. 또한 교육적 효과가 기대되는 미술비평 교수-학습 과정을 설계하고 실천하려 할 때의 유의사항들을 제시했다. 미술비평은 비평자가 가진 일정한 수준의 시각적 문해에 의한 활동이며, 학생들의 비평 활동에 의해 비평적 판단력 등의 능력이 신장된다. 미술비평의 단계별 활동 과정에는 일반적으로 미술의 다양한 기법과 양식들에 관련된 지식, 미술사적 이해와 함께 미학적 이해가 개입한다. 특히 동시대 작품의 의미를 해석하고 가치를 평가할 때 개입하는 심적 능력이 미술사관, 예술관, 미의식이다. 비평적 평가를 위해서는 예술계에 대한 지식, 즉 미학의 개념과 이론에 대한 이해 등의 미적 문해가 요구된다. 미술비평 활동을 통해 이러한 광의의 시각적 문해의 능력들을 기를 수 있다.

영문 초록

This thesis is about the way how we would teach art criticism in classroom. When we want to introduce art criticism in classroom, it is useful to facilitate Feldman's theory of stages of art critical activity, who has divided them into 4 procedures of, as they were, description, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation. From the viewpoint of aesthetics, however, it is evident that Feldman's theory of art criticism is in narrow scope of formalism. I have proposed some points in planning curriculum of critical inquiry and in practice of teaching-learning it, focusing on educational purpose of enhancing student's visual literacy level. The process of critical inquiry is a serious of activities of attending visual facts and evidences of a work of art, gathering relevant informations, talking or writing about meaning and value of it, and so on. Fostering visual literacy, it is effective that students should perform critical activities by themselves going through step-by-step stages systematically, although the procedures may work in feedback after all. Students are able to get approach to a work of art by means of their own visual literacy. What intervene in critical judgement tacitly into the process of critical stages are, in general, the precedent knowledge of various techniques and styles of art media, understanding of art history, and aesthetic understanding. Once they try to interpret overall significance of or to evaluate a present art object in cultural context, it is necessary to activate their precedent understanding about contemporary art world along with cognitive competence of visual esthetic literacy. An appreciator's perception of visual properties or his reading in a work of art relies on his cognitive mental state, that is, of his own visual aesthetic literacy level. It may be considered, especially in value judgement, as a complex mental consciousness with criteria/categories of aesthetics structured mainly of artistic and aesthetic concepts. It is then a multi-layered strata of concepts and theories of aesthetics that makes necessary condition to judge the artistic and aesthetic values of a work of art for himself.
