요약하면, 존재 지향적 미술교육은 정신적 성장을 가져오는 미술교육, 합자연적인 미술교육, 체험하는 미술교육을 지향하고 있다고 말할 수 있다. 보다 구체적으로, 체험교육을 중심으로 하되 아동의 흥미와 성장의 추이에 따라 이론 학습을 병행하거나 뒤따르게 하는 창작이 중심이 되는 통합적 교육 패러다임을 계획 실천하려 한다. 존재지향적 미술교육은 무엇보다도 내적이고 정신적인 층위의 계발을 중요시한다. 생에 대한 긍정적 태도, 현재에 대한 강조, 영적 차원의 실존에 대한 깊은 각성 등으로 특징지어진다고 할 수 있다. 미술활동을 통하여 학생들이 자기 존중감과 정체성을 고양할 기 회를 가져야 한다는 것을 의미한다. 또한 미술활동을 통하여 이웃과 동료들과의 공존감각과 세계에 대한 경외, 경이, 아름다움의 느낌을 공유할 기회를 겨져야 한다는 것을 의미한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper was to investigate the objectives, content, and evaluation of art education for being. In the art education for being art is not used to express ‘pent up’ feelings but is seen as relating to ‘the development of students’ capacity to observe and distinguish vital force in nature and in themselves. A Soulful curriculum recognizes and gives priority to inner life. It seeks balance and connection between our inner and outer lives. If art were to be in the service of transforming the individual and society, it would serve in following ways: Renewing and reaffirming the covenants between humankind and nature and between man and God, grappling with the ephemeral quality of life and with our mortality, celebrating the gifts of life, fulfilling individual potentialities and collective possibilities, and awakening us to higher levels of consciousness. The content of art for being is composed of art making, appreciation, and understanding for art. Evaluation in art education for being can be considered as understanding between students and teacher and among students. Art in this approach is a way of concretizing our need for broader and deeper range of living. On the process of creating, we stretch our psyches touching both personal and archetypal aspects of our origins. Art making is a playful, life supporting activity. As Marc Chagall said, art is prayer-not the vulgarized notations handed down to us in the scriptures, but a fresh, vital discovery of on's own special presence on the world.
