이황의 田園詩文의 자유지향성에 대한 미학적 연구

국문 초록

  李滉은 현실지향의 학문체계인 儒家의 宗匠이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 이황에게서는 자유지향성이 감지된다. 이는 일견 모순처럼 느껴진다. 왜냐하면 자유지향성은 본질적으로 일정하게 현실로부터의 초탈을 희구하는 성향을 내포하기 때문이다.
  이황에게 자유지향성은 그의 詩文에 全방위적으로 드러나는 것으로 보이지만, 특히 전원시문이 중요한 것은 그가 은거한 陶山이라는 전원이 자유지향의 場인 까닭이다.
  이황의 자유지향성은 자아·내면·삶의 자각 등과 깊이 관련되어 있다고 생각된다. 따라서 이황의 자유지향성은 美學의 범주에 속한다고 하겠다. 중국의 碩學 이택후에 의하면 미학은 이성적 통찰과 감성적 초월이 상호 교융하는 정감을 본체로 하는 철학으로서 그 頂點에는 ‘삶’이 자리하는 것으로 이해되는 것이다.
  이황에게 전원은 자유의 공간이며, 그의 전원시문에 나타나는 자유는 그 전원에의 기거를 갈구하는 것과 전원에 기거하면서 접하는 樂을 읊은 것으로 대별될 듯하다. 그리고 전원에 기거하면서 접하는 락은 다시 한가로움과 소요의 자유, 변화 證得을 통한 의식의 비약, 전원의 純粹를 통한 의식의 淨化, 학문의 즐거움과 자유로 세분될 수도 있을 것 같다.
  이황의 자유지향성은 근원적으로 道家的 성격이 강하다고 하겠는데, 그것은 학문 이전에 이황의 審美的 성향이 도가적 아우라와 상통한다는 점, 그리고 학문으로 말한다 하더라도 그가 추구한 성리학이 애당초 상당 부분 道家를 흡수하여 발달했다는 점에 기인하는 것이 아닐까 싶다. 위의 이유 外에 자유지향성은 인간의 본성이기도 할 것이므로, 이황의 자유지향성은 그가 성리학을 畢生의 業으로 삼았다는 사실과 결코 모순되는 것이 아니라고 하겠다.
  미학 범주에 속하는 자유지향성은 이황의 內密한 삶의 결을 심도있게 이해하는 데 불가결한 단서라고 생각된다. 왜냐하면 이택후의 주장대로 최고 혹은 최후의 인생 성숙은 오직 심미 구조 중에만 있겠기 때문이다.

영문 초록

  Lee Hwang is a master of Confucianism, the reality-oriented academic system. Nevertheless, freedom orientation is detected in him, which seems contradictory at first sight. That is because freedom orientation essentially tends to pursue the constant transcendence of reality.
  Lee Hwang"s freedom orientation appears to be detected omnidirectionally in his poetry and prose. But his pastoral poetry and prose are especially important because the country he lived in retirement called Dosan is the place of freedom orientation.
  Lee Hwang"s freedom orientation is considered to be deeply related to ego, inner world and the realization of life. Therefore, his freedom orientation can be said to belong to the categorization of aesthetics. According to Lee, Taek-hu, a distinguished Chinese scholar, aesthetics represents philosophy whose purpose is the mutual combination of rational insight and emotional transcendence, and life matters are considered to be placed at the heart of it.
  For Lee Hwang, the country is the place of freedom. Freedom detected in his pastoral poetry and prose seems to be classified into longing for pastoral life and pleasures gained by pastoral life. And the pleasures can be subdivided into freedom of leisure and stroll, rapid progress of consciousness through the realization of change, the purification of consciousness through the purity of the country, and the pleasure of study and freedom.
  Lee Hwang"s freedom orientation is basically characterized by the strong reflection of Taoism. That is because his aesthetic tendency has something common with Taoistic aura and Seongnihak he pursued originally absorbed much of Taoism. In addition, freedom orientation is a sort of human nature. Therefore, his freedom orientation does not contradict the fact that he pursued Seongnihak as his lifelong occupation.
  Freedom orientation that belongs to aesthetics is vital clue to the deep understanding of Lee Hwang"s life. That is because, as Lee, Taek-hu asserted, the best or complete maturity of life lies in only aesthetic structure.
