국문 초록

  본 연구는 미술교육에서 시각적 사고를 활용해 창의성을 신장할 수 있는 실천 가능한 방안을 이론적으로 탐색해보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 미술의 인지심리학적 기초를 형성하는 시각적 사고의 개념과 주요 특징을 분석하고, 이 시각적 사고의 개념과 주요 특징들이 최근의 뇌신경 과학적 연구에 의해 어떻게 지지되는지, 그리고 창의성에 어떻게 관련되어 있는지 살펴보았다. 그 결과 시각적 사고는 추상적 개념에 의한 논리적 사고와 대비되는 개념으로 논리적 사고에 의해 유발되는 알고리즘의 기계적 사용을 피하게 해주어 사고의 유연성을 증가시킨다. 또한 시각적 사고는 구성요소들을 동시적, 전체적으로 고려하게 함으로써 구조와 맥락의 이해를 촉진하고, 주어진 요소들의 역동적인 전환을 쉽게 해서 문제를 새로운 관점에서 재구성하도록 한다. 이와 같은 시각적 사고와 창의성의 관련성에 대한 고찰에 기초하여 미술교육에서 창의성을 신장하기 위한 실천적 방안을 이론적으로 탐색해보았다. 구체적인 실천 방안으로 ‘시각적 이미지 분석하기’, ‘구조적 특징 파악하기’, ‘대상을 직접 경험하기’, ‘심상 활용하기’가 제시되었다.

영문 초록

  This study was designed to investigate executive plans to foster creativity through visual thinking training in art education. On a practical scale the major concepts and characteristics of visual thinking that forms the cognitive psychological basis of art were analyzed, and how they can be reinforced by the recent neuroscientific research was then investigated. Furthermore, the relation between the concepts of visual thinking and creativity was also examined. As a result, visual thinking helps avoid the mechanical use of an algorithm deriving from logical thinking based on abstract concepts, therefore facilitating the flexibility of thinking. In addition, visual thinking helps consider its constituents in a simultaneous, wholesome manner so that the given elements can be dynamically converted and the existing problems can be effectively reconstructed. On the basis of such theoretical contemplation as to the relation between visual thinking and creativity, practical schemes expected to foster creativity in art education were suggested. In detail, some of the suggestions include ‘analyzing visual images’, ‘comprehending the structural characteristics of objects’, ‘experiencing objects in person’ and ‘utilizing mental images’. However, this research does not necessarily imply that visual thinking is the only way to enhance creativity in art education. As indicated by a number of theories with regard to creativity, a logical investigation based on professional knowledge is also a crucial element that leads to creativity. The reason being is that the two cognitive processes must be balanced in a harmonious manner to ensure the optimal results of creative thinking just as a balanced development of the left and right hemispheres of the brain is important from the perspectives of neuroscience of the brain. Nevertheless, visual thinking has been emphasized merely because its importance has been neglected. All in all, the activation of visual thinking, whose potential effects have been hidden behind the veil of negligence, to enhance creativity can be made possible through art education.
