일본 한글학교의 현황과 과제: 한글학교 교사 면접을 중심으로

국문 초록

일본 한글학교 현황을 파악하고 문제점과 과제를 제안하기 위해 일본 OO지역 한글학교 협의회 소속 교사 4명을 대상으로 심층 면접 조사를 하였다. 면접 조사 결과를 요약하고 제언하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 일본의 한글학교 교육이 다른 나라에 비해 활성화되지 못한 이유는 재일동포 부모와 학생에게 한국어 및 한국 문화와 역사를 공부해야 할 현실적인 필요성이 부족한 것 때문으로 보인다. 일본에 살고 있는 학생은 계속 일본에서 살아갈 것이고, 외모나 행동에서 일본인과 차이가 거의 없고 다른 사람의 시선을 의식하지 않기 때문에 정체성에 대한 고민을 크게 하지 않는 것으로 보인다. 둘째, 한글학교 교사들의 정체성 교육에 대한 시각은 일본에 살고 있지만, 한민족으로서 민족 정체성 교육을 시켜야 한다는 관점과 살아가는데 별문제가 없는데 괜히 드러내어 불편하게 할 필요가 있느냐는 관점이 공존하고 있는데 오히려 양쪽 문화를 잘 이해하여 한일관계발전을 위한 가교역할의 정체성을 모색해야 할 것으로 보인다. 셋째, 일본의 한글학교는 한국 출신의 학생들보다 한류 등의 이유로 한국어를 배우고 싶어 하는 일본인들이 더 많이 등록하는 독특한 현상을 보인다. 이를 한글학교의 활성화 동기로 삼아 일본에서 살고 있는 한국인이라는 반쪽의 불완전한 정체성을 가진 것이 아니라, 오히려 다른 두 가지 잠재력을 장착한 유리한 스펙과 자아존중감을 가진 존재임을 강조할 필요가 있다. 넷째, 올드커머와 뉴커머가 있고, 정체성에 대한 논란이 있는 상황에서는 한글학교 교사가 소통과 연수를 통해 한글학교의 교육목적과 방향에 대한 철학을 정리하고 공유할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to understand the current status of Korean schools and suggest problems and tasks. An in-depth interview was conducted on four teachers from the Korean School Council in OO, Japan. The results are summarized as follows. First, the reason why Korean school education in Japan is not active compared with that in other countries seems to be the lack of practical necessity for Korean parents and students in Japan to study the Korean language, culture, and history. Students living in Japan will continue to live in Japan. Moreover, because they slightly differ from the Japanese in terms of appearance and behavior and are not conscious of other people, they do not seem to worry much about their identity. Second, although the teachers of Korean schools live in Japan, there is a view that national identity education should be provided as a Korean people and that there is no problem in living in Japan. However, there is a view that it is necessary to reveal their identity and to understand Korean and Japanese cultures in order to bridge the gap between Korean–Japanese relations. Third, Korean schools in Japan show a unique phenomenon, wherein more Japanese students want to learn Korean compared with Korean students. Using this as a motive for the establishment of Korean schools, it is necessary to emphasize that Koreans living in Japan do not have an imperfect identity, but rather have a self-esteem with favorable specifications equipped with two other potentials. Fourth, in situations where there are old- and newcomers and there is controversy over their identity, Korean school teachers should organize and share their philosophy on the educational purpose and direction of Korean schools through communication and training.
