‘타자 존중’ 유아 인성교육의 텍스트로서 토미 웅거러 그림책에 대한 연구

국문 초록

연구목적: 유아기 인성교육의 중요성이 강조되는 오늘날 유아 인성교육의 텍스트로서 활발하게 사용되는 그림책에 담겨 있는 인성교육 관련 가치에 대해 다양한 관점으로 탐구하는 것이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 사회적 편견과 부조리함을 해학적으로 꼬집으면서 다양성과 차이, 그리고 소수에 대한 배려와 이해를 드러내는 작가인 토미 웅거러의 그림책에 나타난 타자 존중의 의미에 대해 탐구하고자 하였다. 연구방법: 국내에서 출판된 토미 웅거러의 그림책 중 타자 존중이 잘 드러나는 그림책 11권을 선정하고 유형적 분석 방법을 활용하여 해석하였다. 먼저 텍스트와 그림의 상호작용 속에서 타자 존중이 나타난 부분을 표시한 후 드러나는 패턴을 찾고 이후 패턴 간 관계를 분석하였다. 연구결과: 토미 웅거러 그림책에서 나타난 타자 존중은 타자가 가진 부정적 특성, 타자와의 차이와 다름, 자신과의 이해관계에 상관없이 실천해야 한다는 것이 나타났다. 또한 타자 존중은 구성원 간 관계를 새롭게 변형시키며 사회적 연대를 형성함이 드러났다. 논의 및 결론: 토미 웅거러 그림책은 타자라는 기호를 능동적으로 해석함으로써 새로운 의미를 생성하고 다양한 접속과 배치를 통해 무수한 –되기 과정을 겪을 때 사회적 편견을 넘어서 타자에 대한 존중의 실천이 가능함을 보여주었다. 이러한 점에서 토미 웅거러 그림책은 동일성의 철학에 따라 화석화된 습관을 만들어 주는 것이 아니라 유아들이 주체적으로 의미를 생성할 수 있도록 독특한 기호를 발산하는 텍스트로서 교육적 가치를 가진다.

영문 초록

Purpose: While the importance of early childhood character education is emphasized, studies from various perspectives on the values ​​related to character education represented in picture books are meaningful. The purpose of this study was to explore the meaning of respect for others in the picture book of Tommy Ungerer, an author who reveals diversity and difference, consideration and understanding of minority while humorizing social prejudice and absurdity. Method: Eleven picture books were selected and interpreted using pattern analysis. First, the part that showed respect of the other in the interaction between text and picture was marked, then the pattern was revealed, and then the relationship between the patterns was analyzed. Results: It was shown that the respect for others represented in Tommy Ungerer’s picture books should be practiced regardless of the negative characteristics of others, the difference from others, and the interests of the self. Respect for others has also been found to transform social relationships among members. Conclusion: Tommy Ungerer s picture books showed that respect for other is possible when we create new meanings through actively deciphering signs of others and continuously experiencing –becoming process from various connections and assemblage. In this sense, Tommy Ungerer’s picture books have educational value as texts that give young children unique meanings, rather than making fossilized habits according to identity philosophy.
