데이터 시각화(data visualization)를 활용한 미술수업에서의 시각적 문해력 증진: 고등학교 사례연구

국문 초록

디지털 시대의 학습자는 영상, 디지털 매체를 비롯해 SNS, 클라우드 서비스 등을 통한 무한 정의 데이터에 노출되어 있으며 이와 같은 환경의 변화에 따라 데이터 표현과 수용방식의 변 화가 요구되고 있다. 다시 말해 수많은 정보들을 시각적으로 묘사하고 필요한 정보를 효율적 이고 명확하게 제공하는 ‘데이터 시각화’의 필요성이 증가하고 있다. 데이터를 시각화 하는 작업은 데이터를 인식하고 수집하며 정보를 처리하여 표현하는 과정이기 때문에, 자연적으로 이미지와 텍스트의 관계들을 보고 해석, 비평하는 능력인 시각적 문해력과 연결시켜 생각할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 고등학교 1학년 학생들을 대상으로 미술수업에서 데이터 시각화 툴 을 학습도구로 활용하여 수업을 진행하고, 그 결과로서 학생들의 시각적 문해력이 향상하였 는지를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 참여 학생들의 사전?사후 마인드맵, 창작 작품결과물, 교사와 학생과의 면담, 성찰저널로부터 자료를 수집하고 분석하였으며, 그 결과로서 학생들의 시각적 문해력의 능력요소가 향상되었음을 알 수 있었다. 결론적으로 본 연구는 학습자들이 데이터 시각화라는 학습도구를 활용함으로서, 디지털 테크놀로지 시대에 요구되는 시각적 문 해력이라는 학습역량을 함양할 수 있음을 제안한다.

영문 초록

The advantage of digital age including diverse digital technologies, SNS, cloud service is characterized by increasing data deluge and complexity, which requires many efforts in seeking the relations between and among the results of data analyses and queries. According to the social needs, on one hand, data visualization began to gain more attention for the purpose of communicating information clearly and effectively through graphical means which stimulate viewer engagement and interest. visual literacy, on the other hand, is also emerging as an important literacy, which indicates the ability to interpret, negotiate, criticize, and masocke meaning from information presented in the form of an image. This study, in this context, aimed to examine the relationship between data visualization and , visual literacy in other word, to analyze how students’ visual literacy competency has been affected by their experience with data visualization in their art classes. For this purpose, this study conducted a case study of art classes in which 180 high school 1st graders participated in experiencing data visualization tool (Tagxedo) in creating their art works for 3weeks (4 classes). The results were analyzed by data collected from mind-maps before and after classes, interviews, reflective journals, and their art works and interpretation and showed positive improvement and changes of visual literacy of the participant students. In conclusion, this study showed data visualization is closely related with and provide positive affects to the competency of visual literacy required as an important literacy in the digital age.
