국문 초록

본 연구는 1911년 5월 대전에서 설립되어 1937년 4월 남선합동전기에 통합될 때까지 대전과 충남, 충북, 전북, 강원, 경기 등지에서 전기를 공급한 대전전기주식회사의 설립과 경영변동을 다룬 논문이다. 대전전기는 대전 거주 일본인 유지들이 중심이 되어 설립하여 대전 시가지에 전등과 전력을 공급한 회사이다. 경영 초기에 잦은 경영진의 교체를 거치며 결국 재일 사업가 후루야 일가가 경영권을 장악하게 되었다. 대전전기는 1920년대까지 주로 인구 밀집지역의 일본인을 상대로 한 전등 영업에 치중하고 있었지만, 1930년대에 들어서 적극적인 확장정책으로 전환하였다. 여기에는 총독부의 전력통제정책이 자리하고 있었다. 당시 대전전기는 배전회사의 통합은 거부할 수 없는 대세임을 자각하고, 총독부의 정책에 협조하면서 실리를 확보할 방법을 모색했다. 원주에 지점을 설치하고 각지로 공급구역을 확대하는 한편 공주전기와 이장전기를 인수 합병하였고, 영월화력발전소 건설을 위한 조선전력의 설립에 적극 참여하여 대규모 자본을 투자하였다. 그 결과 대전전기를 비롯한 6개사는 남선합동전기로 통합을 이루게 되었다.

영문 초록

This research paper discusses the establishment and management changes of the Daejeon Electric Company (hereafter DEC), which was founded in 1911 in Daejeon and supplied electricity to Daejeon, Chungnam, Chungbuk, Jeonbuk, Gangwon, and Gyeonggi until its integration into the Namseon Joint Electric Co. in 1937. DEC was established by Japanese residents in Daejeon to provide lighting and electricity to the city. After experiencing frequent changes in management during its early years, the Furuya (古谷) family, a group of Japanese entrepreneurs, ultimately took control of the company. Until the 1920s, DEC primarily focused on lighting sales to Japanese residents in densely populated areas. However, in the 1930s, it shifted to an aggressive expansion policy influenced by the government general's electric power control policies. At that time, DEC recognized the inevitability of the integration of electric distribution companies and sought ways to secure its interests while cooperating with government policies. It established a branch in Wonju, expanded its supply areas, merged with the Gongju Electric Co. and the Ijang Electric Co., and actively participated in the establishment of the Joseon Electric Co. for the construction of the Yeongwol Thermal Power Plant, making significant capital investments. As a result, DEC and five other companies eventually merged into the Namseon Joint Electric Co..
