학령기 아동의 읽기 능력과 사회정서 행동의 관계 분석: 화용언어 능력의 매개효과

국문 초록

배경 및 목적: 읽기 능력이 부족한 학령기 아동들은 학업이나 정서 및 행동 문제 등으로 학교생활에 적응하는 데 어려움을 겪을 수 있다. 본 연구는 읽기 능력, 화용언어 능력, 그리고 사회정서 행동의 관계를 살펴보고, 읽기 능력과 사회정서 행동의 관계에서 화용언어 능력의 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 방법: 초등학교 2학년에서 6학년에 재학 중인 124명의 아동을 대상으로 변수 간의 관계를 분석하기 위해 상관분석을 하였고, 읽기 능력과 사회정서 행동의 관계에서 화용언어 능력의 매개효과를 검증하기 위해 SPSS PROCESS Macro (ver. 3.5) 분석 방법 중 모델 4를 사용하였다. 결과: 상관분석 결과, 읽기 능력은 화용언어 능력이나 사회정서 행동과 유의미한 상관을 나타냈으며, 화용언어 능력도 사회정서 행동과 밀접한 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 화용언어 능력의 매개효과를 검증한 결과, 읽기능력과 정서적 난점이나 정서적 강점의 관계에서 화용언어 능력의 간접효과가 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 논의 및 결론: 본 연구를 통해읽기 능력과 화용언어 능력이 사회정서 행동에 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 확인하였다. 따라서 부정적 사회정서 행동을 감소시키고, 긍정적인 사회정서 행동을 증가시키기 위해서는 읽기유창성 및 읽기이해 지도와 연계하여 화용언어 능력의 중재를 병행할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

Objectives: School-aged children with poor reading abilities face a variety of challenges in their lives. They may be at risk of having learning difficulties and behavioral or emotional problems in school. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationships among reading abilities, pragmatic language abilities, and socio-emotional behaviors and the mediation effect of pragmatic language abilities in the relations between reading abilities and socio-emotional behaviors of school-aged children. Methods: The participants in this study are 124 elementary school children (from 2nd to 6th grade). To examine the relation ships among reading abilities, pragmatic language abilities, and socio-emotional behaviors, correlations were used. To analyze the mediation effect of pragmatic language abilities in the relations between reading abilities and socio-emotional behaviors, SPSS PROCESS Macro (ver. 3.5) analysis method was used in Model 4. Results: The main findings of this study are as follows. First, reading abilities were significantly correlated with pragmatic language abilities and socio-emotional behaviors. Also, the pragmatic language abilities were significantly correlated with socio-emotional behaviors. Second, pragmatic language abilities mediated the relations between reading abilities and socio-emotional behaviors (emotional difficulties and strengths). Conclusion: The significance of this study lies in verifying that reading abilities and pragmatic language abilities play an important role in alleviating socio-emotional problems and in increasing emotional strengths. These results can be used as important basic data for reading and practical language intervention to reduce emotional difficulties and to increase emotional strengths.
