낙선재본과 연대본에 공통 수록된 이야기로 본 한글본 『어우야담』 이본의 번역 특징

국문 초록

본고의 목적은 현전하는 한글본 『어우야담』 2종인 낙선재본과 연대본에 공통적으로 수록된 이야기 여섯 편의 문면을 구체적으로 비교하여 한글본 야담집 『어우야담』 이본 2종의 번역이 어떻게 같고 다르게 이루어졌는지 살피고 그 특징을 규명하는 데 있다. 지금껏 2종의 한글본 『어우야담』에 대한 검토는 다른 이본의 존재가 고려되지 못한 채 개별적으로 이루어진 경우가 많고, 종합적 연구를 표방한 경우에도 해당 자료가 한글본 『어우야담』의 이본이라는 인식하에서는 충분히 다뤄지지 못했다는 한계가 있었다. 『어우야담』은 한글본 야담에 속하는 자료들 가운데 긴 서책과 짤막한 서책의 형태가 모두 확인되는 유일한 자료로, 두 이본에는 여섯 편의 이야기가 공통적으로 수록되어 있다. 이에 본고는 긴 서책과 짤막한 서책의 한글본 『어우야담』에 공통적으로 실려 있는 이 이야기들의 문면을 직접 비교해볼 수 있었다. 그 결과 두 자료가 한글본 『어우야담』의 이본으로서 축역 경향과 오역 및 오기 등 한글 번역상의 특징적 경향을 공유하기도 한다는 사실을 알 수 있었다. 그럼에도 선행연구에서 거듭 지적되었던 대로 낙선재본과 연대본의 한글 번역 양상에서는 차이 또한 적지 않게 발견되었다. 한글본 『어우야담』 2종의 이본을 비교 검토함으로써 본고에서 규명한 사실은 다음과 같다. 1) 직역을 주로 하는 낙선재본에 비해 연대본에는 축역(縮譯)이나 의역(意譯)이 더 많은 점, 2) 낙선재본에 비해 연대본에는 인물 정보와 관련되는 내용을 익명 처리하는 경향이 더 큰 점, 3) 낙선재본에 비해 연대본이 서술자의 논설을 축약하는 경향이 강한 점, 4) 낙선재본에 비해 연대본이 독자를 고려함으로써 친절히 부연 설명하거나 심리 및 대화를 부연하는 경향이 있는 점, 5) 낙선재본에서 독자를 고려하여 선정적일 수 있는 사소한 표현을 수정한 것으로 보이는 부분이 발견된다는 점이다. 낙선재본과 연대본의 번역에서 보이는 이러한 차이는 긴 서책과 짤막한 서책의 내적인 차이에서 기인하는 것으로 그 독자층과 관련하여 이해해 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to examine the translation pattern and identify its characteristics by comparing the texts of Yonsei University's collection and Nakseonjae's collection, which are two Hanguel version of Eowooyadam. So far, Hanguel version of Eowooyadam have been reviewed individually without the existence of other texts, or even if comprehensive research is advocated, there was a limitation that the data were not sufficiently covered within the framework of the Hanguel version of Eowooyadam. Eowooyadam is the only material that confirms both short and long books among the materials belonging to the Hanguel version of Yadam, and the two editions contain six stories in common. As a result, this paper was able to compare these six stories commonly contained in short and long books. As a result of comparing the six stories, it was found that the two texts were basically copies of Hanguel version of Eowooyadam, which shared characteristic tendencies such as the tendency of reducction and errors such as mistranslation and misspelling. Nevertheless, as pointed out repeatedly in previous studies, there were also many differences in the translation of Nakseonjae's collection and Yonsei University's collection into Hanguel. The following are the facts that were identified in this paper through consideration of the two texts of the Hanguel version of Eouyadam. 1) More abbreviated and paraphrased are found in Yonsei University's collection compared to Nakseonjae's collection, 2) Yonsei University's collection tends to anonymize content related to person information compared to Nakseonjae's collection, 3) Yonsei University's collection tends to abbreviate the narrator's thesis compared to Nakseonjae's collection, 4) Yonsei University's collection tends to kindly explain the content or add psychology and dialogue by considering the reader, and 5) the Nakseonjae collection has a part that appears to have modified minor expressions that can be sensational in consideration of the reader.
