국문 초록

염상섭의 『삼대』에서 주의자의 등장은 독보적 측면 중 하나이다. 제3차 공산당 사건의 실제 과정은 『삼대』에서 전개되는 주의자들의 서사에 적지 않은 영향을 미쳤다. 해당 사건이 1929년 11월부터 10개월 이상 지상 중계되고 있었다는 사실은 1928년 1~2월의 제3차 조선공산당 사건과 1931년 1~9월의 『삼대』연재 사이의 연결고리로 볼 수 있다. 『삼대』의 서사와 제3차 공산당 사건의 실제 전개 과정 사이의 관련성을 인정할 수 있다고 해서 그 관계가 『삼대』가 당시의 실제 사실을 반영하고 있다는 간단한 설명으로만 환원되는 것은 아니다. 『삼대』의 경우에는 무엇보다 주의자의 재현 과정에서 작가의 독창성을 찾을 수 있다. 『삼대』의 전반에 걸쳐 주의자는 부랑자나 룸펜 이미지로 유지되는 한편, 텍스트 상에 서술된 것과 서술되지 않았지만 다른 파라텍스트에 의해 보충 가능한 것들의 겹침 이미지로 나타난다. 염상섭의 『삼대』는 서술과 비서술의 경계에서 주의자의 활동을 재현한다는 점에서도 독창적이지만, 식민지의 근본적인 적대 속에서 주의자의 주변에 많은 심파들이 잠복해 있음을 재현한다는 점에서도 독창적이다.

영문 초록

The appearance of socialists in Yeom Sang-seop’s Three Generations is one of the unrivaled aspects. The actual process of the Third Communist Party incident had a considerable influence on the narratives of the socialists in this novel. Recognizing the relationship between the narrative of the Three Generations and the actual development process of the Third Communist Party incident does not mean that the relationship can be reduced only to a simple explanation that this novel reflects the actual facts of the time. In the case of the Three Generations, the originality of the novelist can be found in the process of representing the socialists. The socialists are maintained as a lumpen image, while appearing as a montage of what is described in the text and what is not described but can be supplemented by other paratext. Three Generations is also original in that it reproduces the activities of the socialists at the boundary between narrative and non-narrative, but it is also original in that it reproduces that many sympathizers around the socialists amid the fundamental hostility of the colony.
