후일담의 역사와 ‘운동권’의 글쓰기

국문 초록

이 논문에서는 이행기의 서사 양식으로서 후일담 문학의 연대기적 특성을 파악하고 그러한 특성이 함의하고 있는 사회적 성격에 대해 탐구해봤다. 흔히 이행기 혹은 전환기라고 불리는 특정한 역사의 국면에는 ‘과거의 잔여’와 ‘미래의 현현’이 ‘현재의 쟁점’ 속에서 충돌하거나 병행하는데 후일담은 그러한 이행기의 혼란으로부터 자기를 구제하기 위한 양식으로 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 후일담 문학의 주인공들은 한때는 운동권이었지만 지금은 그렇지 않은 자들이다. 그들은 운동과 변혁 노선에서의 이탈을 글쓰기라는 행위의 (불)가능성에 대한 욕망으로 봉합하려 했다. 즉 후일담의 주체들은 이행기의 혼돈 속에서 글쓰기라는 사명을 싹틔우며 역사의 주인이 되어 자기를 구제하고, 그러한 구제를 승인하기 위해 사후(事後)라는 의식을 형성하고 있었다는 것이다. 하지만 2000년대 이후의 후일담은 운동권 의식과 글쓰기란 행위의 분리 가능성 혹은 그 사이(間)의 긴장으로부터 배태되고 있었다. 후일 혹은 사후라는 의식과 그 문학적 산물인 후일담 소설 간의 관계를 자명하게 전제하지 않고, 이제는 역사라기보다는 그저 과거가 되어버린 공통의 경험을 기록으로 남길 때 얻을 수 있는 문학적･정치적 가능성이 실험되기 시작했다는 것이다. 따라서 여기서는 후일담 문학의 연대기를 통해 역사의 성취를 그 누구도 독점할 수 없다는 의식의 정당한 확산 속에서 과거에 모색되거나 꿈꾸었던 사회변혁의 가능성과 의지를 현재화할 수 있는 방법에 대해 살펴볼 수 있었다고 생각한다.

영문 초록

In this paper, the chronological characteristics of later-story literature as a narrative style of the transition period were identified, and the social characteristics implied by those characteristics were explored. In a particular phase of history, often called the transition period or transition period, ‘residual of the past’ and ‘present of the future’ collide or parallel with ‘present issues’, and later stories need to be viewed as a way to relieve oneself from the chaos of such transition periods. The protagonists of later-story literature are those who were once activists but are not. They tried to seal the departure from the movement and transformation line with a desire for the (un)probability of the act of writing. In other words, the subjects of later stories sprouted their mission of writing in the chaos of the transition period, forming a consciousness of afterlife to become masters of history, rescue themselves, and approve such relief. However, since the 2000s, later stories have been embedded from the tension between the possibility of separation between the movement consciousness and the act of writing. It is said that the literary and political possibilities that can be obtained by recording common experiences that have become the past rather than history are now beginning to be tested without clearly presupposing the relationship between the consciousness of later or posthumous and the literary product of the later story novel. Therefore, I believe that through the chronology of later story literature, we were able to examine ways to present the possibility and will of social change that were sought or dreamed of in the past in the legitimate spread of the consciousness that no one can monopolize the achievement of history.
