아차산 일대 고구려 보루의 구조에 대한 재검토

국문 초록

이 글에서는 발굴조사가 이루어진 아차산 일대 고구려 보루의 구조와 시기별 경관을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 기왕의 조사 및 연구에서 알려진 바와 달리 이 일대 고구려 보루는 목책단계를 설정할 수 없으며, 토성으로 초축 이후 석성으로 개축되었음을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 보루의 치와 방어시설이 지속적으로 가축되었을 뿐 아니라 홍련봉 2보루의 경우 초축 이후에 외황에 축조되었다는 점을 감안할 때 방어력을 높이는 쪽으로 변화하였다. 또한 보루는 지속적으로 수·개축이 이루어졌고, 구지표 역시 높아지면서 많은 부속시설이 설치되었을 뿐 아니라 동시기 생활면에서도 중복이 이루어졌다. 구지표를 굴착하고 설치된 저장 및 저수시설과 수혈유구의 내부는 구의동보루를 제외하고 자연퇴적이 이루어졌으므로 아차산 일대 보루는 축성 이후 지속적으로 사용된 것이 아니라 존폐를 거듭하였다. 따라서 고구려는 임진강 유역이나 최소한 한강유역에서 일정기간 동안 철수하였다고 보는 것이 합리적이므로 한강유역을 안정적으로 지배하지 못하였다고 보여 진다. 보루가 폐기된 기간에 대해서는 단언하기 어려우나 유구가 완전히 매몰되었다는 점을 감안할 때 상당한 기간임을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study examined the structure and temporal landscape of Goguryeo’s fortress in the area of Achasan mountain where an excavation was conducted. According to the result of this study, unlike what was known from the previous investigations and studies, Goguryeo’s fortress in this area was not able to set up the stage of wooden wall, and an earthen fortress was first built and later replaced by a stone fortress. The turrets and defense facilities of the fortress continued to be additionally installed, and, for the 2nd fortress of Hongryeonbong, they were installed on dry moat outside the fortress. These suggest that the fortress developed to increase the defensive power. The fortress continued to be repaired and rebuilt after its initial establishment. As the old surface rose up, many attached facilities were installed and redundancy took place in the aspect of life at that time. Deposits naturally occurred on storage and water-storage facilities installed at the place where old surface was dug, except for Guidong fortress. Thus, the fortress of Achachan mountain was not used continuously after it was built, but its formation and destruction was repeated. Additionally, Goguryeo seems to have failed to stably control the Han River basin, because it is clear that Goguryeo withdrew from the Imjingang river basin or the Han River basin for a certain period of time. It is difficult to specify the period during which the fortress was destroyed. However, it can be seen that the period was quite long considering that the dwelling site was completely buried.
