메타버스 플랫폼을 활용한 교과 운영 실태 분석

국문 초록

이 글은 2023년에 메타버스를 경험한 학습자 151명과 교수자 13명을 대상으로 메타버스 수업의 교육 효과를 검토한 실제적 연구이다. 즉 최근 다양하게 활용되고 있는 가상 세계인 메타버스를 시범 운영한 수업의 현황 분석을 통해 장점과 단점을 파악하고, 개선할 방안을 통해 대부분의 대학이 직면한 디지털 교육 환경의 문제를 보완하여 더 나은 교육 환경을 마련할 수 있는 자료를 제공하려는 데 목표를 두고 있다. 이 목표를 위해 교수자와 학습자를 대상으로 메타버스 수업 경험에 대한 만족도 설문 조사를 실시하였고, 그 결과 ‘학습 흥미와 재미 향상, 새로운 학습 경험 제공’ 등의 긍정적인 면과 ‘교수와 학생의 상호 작용의 부족, 학습자의 수업 이해도 및 문제 해결 능력 저하’ 등의 부정적인 면을 확인하였다. 또 만족도 평가를 통해 ‘메타버스 플랫폼의 콘텐츠 및 시스템에 관한 기술적인 문제 개선 요구, 수강 인원과 강의 평점의 상관관계로 인한 인원 제한의 필요성, 교수와 학생의 재운영과 재수강에 대한 부정적 의견 표출’이라는 앞으로의 과제를 제시하였다. 이러한 논의가 4차 산업으로 메타버스 플랫폼에 관심을 가지고 있는 대부분의 대학에 메타버스 수업 현황을 파악하게 하고, 교수자와 학생들의 수업 경험에 대한 기초 자료가 된다는 점에서는 의미가 있으리라 본다.

영문 초록

This study was designed as a practical study to assess the educational effectiveness of Metaverse lessons by collecting data from 151 students and 13 instructors who had experienced Metaverse lessons in 2023. It aims at revealing strengths and weaknesses of lessons piloted using Metaverse, a virtual world of which the use has been extended in various areas, to provide resource data in order to resolve the issues of the digital education environment faced by most universities and to provide better education. Therefore, a survey on the satisfaction of Metaverse lessons was conducted on both instructors and students and it showed that ‘intrigued interest and more fun in learning; provision of new experiences in learning’ are strengths while ‘lack of interaction between instructors and students; decrease in students’ understanding of lessons; decrease in problem-solving ability’ are weaknesses. Also, from the analysis of the survey, future tasks for the lesson using Metaverse were revealed as follows: ‘improvement of technical issues of the contents and system of the Metaverse platform; need for limitation of the numbers of students enrolled in the course due to the correlation between the no. of students enrolled and the course grading; negative opinions about students and instructors about re-operation and re-taking of the course. This discussion would find its significance to help most of universities having an interest in the Metaverse platform as part of the 4th industry to have a better understanding of the status of courses using Metaverse platforms and provide data for the experiences of instructors and students on courses using Metaverse platforms.
