국문 초록

이 논문은 함형수가 만주 이주 이후에 쓴 작품을 분석한 연구이다. 함형수는 1930년대 중반 󰡔동아일보󰡕와 󰡔조선일보󰡕에 다수의 작품을 발표하면서 문단 활동을 시작했다. 하지만 그가 본격적으로 주목받게 된 계기는 󰡔시인부락󰡕과 󰡔자오선󰡕의 동인으로 참여했기 때문이었다. 이러한 이유로 인해 한국 문학사에서 함형수는 1930년대에 등장한 ‘생명파’의 일원으로 평가되고 있다. 함형수의 초기 시는 ｢해바라기의 비명｣으로 대표되는 생명파적인 경향과 ‘소년’ 화자의 목소리로 전달되는 유년 세계에 대한 실존적 고백으로 요약할 수 있다. 하지만 함형수의 시는 상투적인 자연서정시에 머물지 않고 다양한 시적 형식과 모던한 감각을 실험하는 방향으로 나아갔다. 그럼에도 불구하고 이러한 다양성은 그동안 ‘함형수=생명파’라는 논리로 인해 외면되었다. 한편 함형수는 1930년대 후반 돌연 국내 활동을 정리하고 만주 도문(圖們)으로 이주하였다. 일제 후반기 함형수는 만주 문단에서 활동했으나 해방 직후 불의의 사고로 사망함으로써 그동안 연구자들의 관심을 받지 못했다. 최근 만주 문학에 대한 국문학계의 관심이 높아지면서 <시현실> 동인에 대한 연구가 일부 진행되었다. 하지만 이들 연구의 대부분은 그가 <시현실> 동인이었다는 사실에 주목하여 그의 시를 초현실주의와 동일시하는 입장을 취하고 있다. 이 논문에서는 만주 시기 함형수의 문학이 모더니즘과 초현실주의 사이에서 독자적인 시적 현대성을 추구했다는 사실을 강조했다. 함형수는 만주로 이주하기 이전에도 당대 모더니즘의 영향을 보여주는 작품들을 썼다. 만주 이주 이후 함형수는 모더니즘과 초현실주의를 지향하는 시인들과 교류하면서 개성적인 작품을 발표했고, 그러한 활동 가운데에는 <시현실> 동인 활동도 포함된다. 하지만 만주로 이주한 이후 그가 발표한 작품은 초현실주의보다는 모더니즘에 한층 가깝다. 이 논문은 이 지점에 주목하여 1940년 이후 그가 발표한 작품을 집중적으로 분석했다. 이 과정을 통해 이 논문은 문학을 형식이 아닌 정신의 문제로 인식한 함형수의 문학론이 갖는 의미를 살피고자 했다.

영문 초록

This paper is a study analyzing the works written by Ham Hyung-su after his immigration to Manchuria. In the mid-1930s, Ham Hyung-su began his literary activities by publishing numerous works in 'Dong-a Ilbo' and 'Chosun Ilbo.' However, he gained significant attention when he actively participated as a collaborator in 'Shiinburak' and 'Jaoseon.' Consequently, within the context of Korean literary history, Ham Hyung-su is evaluated as a member of the 'Saengmynpa' movement that emerged in the 1930s. His early poems are characterized by a Saengmynpa tendency exemplified by 'The Scream of Sunflowers' and existential confessions about the world of youth conveyed through the voice of a 'boy' narrator. Nevertheless, Ham Hyung-su's poetry did not linger in conventional pastoral lyricism; instead, it ventured into experimenting with various poetic forms and modern sensibilities. Despite this diversity, such experimentation has been overshadowed by the logic associating Ham Hyung-su solely with 'Saengmynpa' until now. On the other hand, in the late 1930s, Ham Hyung-su abruptly concluded his activities in Korea, organizing them, and immigrated to Manchuria, specifically to Domun (圖們). Although he was active in the literary scene in Manchuria during the later period of the Japanese colonial era, his untimely death shortly after liberation, due to an unfortunate accident, led to a lack of attention from researchers. With the recent heightened interest in Manchurian literature within the Korean literary community, some studies have been conducted on his involvement in the 'Sihyeonshil(The Reality of Poetry)' literary group. However, most of these studies tend to equate his poetry with surrealism, emphasizing his participation in the 'Sihyeonshil(The Reality of Poetry)' group. This paper underscores the fact that during his time in Manchuria, Ham Hyung-su's literature pursued a distinctive poetic modernity between modernism and surrealism. Even in works published before his migration to Manchuria, Ham demonstrated a clear influence of contemporary modernism. While in Manchuria, he engaged with poets who leaned towards modernism and surrealism, producing unique works, including his participation in the 'Sihyeonshil(The Reality of Poetry)' literary group. However, it can be argued that his post-migration works align more closely with modernism than surrealism. This paper focuses on this aspect and conducts an in-depth analysis of his works after 1940, aiming to examine the significance of Ham Hyung-su's literary theory, which perceives literature as a matter of the 'spirit' rather than mere 'form'.
