固有語 地名의 漢字語化 過程과 그 對立 樣相에 관한 硏究

국문 초록

우리나라 지명의 원초적인 형태는 고유어였다. 그러나 중국의 문화ㆍ정치적인 간섭의 결과 고유어를 기반으로 한 한자어 지명이 생성되면서 복수의 형식으로 대립, 공존하여 왔다. 고유어와 한자어 지명의 대립 공존은《三國史記》地理志,《龍飛御天歌》그리고 현용 俗地名을 통하여 확인할 수 있다. 複數性의 한 축인 한자어 지명이 세력을 얻게 된 것은 지명어의 문자화 과정에서 한자를 활용하였다는 점이다. 또한 한자가 지닌 강점인 造語力과 이를 바탕으로 생성된 漢字語 地名이 경제성을 갖추고 있다는 점이다. 여기서 경제성이란 한자어는 고유어에 비해 음절을 줄일 수 있는 縮約力이 있음을 의미하는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 우리나라 지명의 특징 중 고유어와 한자어 지명이 대립 공존하는 경우를 탐구하였다. 그러나 현용 행정지명은 대부분 한자어이다. 고유어 지명을 잠식하게 된 배경과 과정, 서구어의 침투와 관련한 미래의 지명 정책 등에 대한 논의가 요구된다.

영문 초록

Originally, there existed only the Native Toponym Words in Korea. However, the Sino-Korean Toponym Words were formulated due to the cultural and political intervention of China resulting coexistence and opposition of the two types of Toponym Words. Their coexistence and opposition are manifest in the Book of Geography of The History of Three Kingdoms《三國史記》, Songs of Flying Dragons《龍飛御天歌》and the actual non-administrative Toponym Words. The Sino-Korean was preferred to the Native Korean and utilized in the literation of Toponym Words due to its productive power and economy. By the term 'economy' it is meant that the Sino-Korean has much reductive power to diminish syllables than the Native Korean. This study investigates the aspects of coexistence and opposition of the two types of Toponym Words. However, it should be emphasized that the actual administrative Toponym Words are mainly in Sino-Korean. A further discussion is needed to analyze the context and process of dominance of the Sino-Korean Toponym Words and establish the future plan for Toponym Words in the confrontation of the invasion of foreign languages.
