한국어 학습자의 교재 선호 특성에 대한 연구

국문 초록

2000년대 이후 한국어 교재가 각 기관마다 출판되고 있는데, 주요 교수법이 무엇인가에 따라 교재의 집필의 양상이 다르다. 과거에는 청각구두식 교수법이 주로 사용되었는데, 요즘에는 의사소통적 접근법을 주로 사용하고 있다. 그런데 이 교수법에서는 한국어 교재에서 비언어적 구성의 내용이 다른 교수법에 비해 더욱 중요해졌다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 한국어 교재 중에서 경희대학교 <한국어 1-6>시리즈를 사용하는 한 기관의 학습자를 통해, 교재에서의 언어적/시각적 자료의 선호 유형에 대해서 알아본 것이다. 학습자 성향에 대한 분석을 보면, 학습자들은 일반적으로 언어적 학습보다 시각적 학습을 더 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 학습교재의 내용 구성 설문에서 교재의 시각적 자료의 양, 텍스트의 양, 그리고 비율도 적절하며, 대화/설명 텍스트나, 그림/사진 등이 이해에 도움을 주며, 학습효과를 높일 수 있다고 응답했다. 마지막으로 학습자가 교재가 어떤 경우, 이해가 가장 빠른가에 대한 질문인데, 실제상황이 대화로 묘사된 텍스트와 그림이 함께 제시되었을 경우에 대한 선호가 가장 높았다.

영문 초록

Since the 2000s a large number of teaching materials for Korean as a Foreign Language (KFL) have been published by many institutions with various editorial patterns of major teaching methods. In the past, Audioiingual Method was the major teaching method, but lately communicative approach is more widely used. In order to improve the speaking skill in particular among many functions of language this teaching method has come to actively apply various learning media, instead of using studying tools simply to teach grammatical knowledge. This indicates that non-linguistical contents format is very important in teaching materials for KFL compared to other teaching methods. In this research, the pattern of preference on verbal vs visual materials was studied based on the data from students of an institute where the series published by Kyunghee University are used out of many different KFL teaching materials. The followings are the results of the analysis. First, according to the analysis on the disposition of the learners, they seem to prefer visual learning in general than linguistic learning. Secondly, in the survey on the contents format of the learning materials, learners responded that the amount of visual materials and text, and the ratio between them are proper, while the conversation/explanation text and picture/photo help them to understand and enhance the efficiency of learning. They also mentioned that they were satisfied with the explanation or the contents of conversation text and the variety and contents of the pictures or photos used, which are helpful for improving learning efficiency. However, despite the general satisfaction, there were also some negative answers such as saying that pictures/photos were too unfamiliar or showed cultural difference, leading to misunderstanding. This should receive due consideration. The third question, a conclusive one, was to find out the cases when the learners have the maximum efficiency in understanding. The students showed the highest preference when the text describing actual situation is presented along with pictures. To this end, further studies should follow to well match the learners' disposition and the disposition of teachers and teaching materials based on empirical studies. This will hopefully contribute to more effective education of Korean as a foreign language in the future.
