스토리텔링을 활용한 외국어로서의 한국어 교육

국문 초록

본 연구는 외국어로서의 한국어 교육에서 한국문학작품을 활용할 때 나타나는 문제점과 그 해결방안을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 외국어로서의 한국어 교육은 한국문화와 상생적으로 접목될 수 있는 분과학문임에도, 실제 한국어교육에서 한국문화는 언어적, 수단적 방식으로만 모색· 활용되고 있다. 가장 주요하게 나타나는 문제점은 문학제재가 사용되는 경우에도 여전히 ‘언어능력’ 중심의 수업이 설계되고 있다는 점이며 그 다음으로 국어교육에서 ‘정전’으로 인정하고 있는 ‘문학작품’을 한국어교육에서 그대로 차용하고 있다는 점 등이다. ‘국어교육’과 ‘한국어교육’이 분명 다른 분과학문임에도 한국어교육에서 국어교육의 ‘정전’을 그대로 수용하는 문제점이 나타나고 있는 것이다. 본고에서는 이 문제들을 살펴보면서 한국어수업에서 ‘스토리텔링적 접근’을 대안으로 제시해 보았다. 스토리텔링의 방법이란 개별 어휘나 문법에 의존하는 독해가 아니라 의미맥락을 추론하며 독해하는 방식으로 한국문화를 복합적으로 접근할 수 있는 방법이다. 특히 이를 수월하게 접근할 수 있는 텍스트로 한국 소설을 활용함으로써 ‘한국문화’ 교육을 사회역사적 의미와 복합적인 일상문화로 접근하고자 했다.

영문 초록

This study aims to identify problems that appear during the utilization of Korean literary works in education for Korean as a foreign language, and their solutions. Even though education for Korean as a foreign language is a sub-sector that may be grafted onto Korean culture in a mutually reciprocal relationship, the Korean culture class is only sought in an ordinary and experiential way in actual Korean education. Also in case of utilizing the ‘literary’ materials for an actual Korean culture class, those materials are merely used for a class dedicated to improve linguistic proficiency; therefore, it is still a problem to conduct research into in order to offer a proper Korean culture class. In this paper, problems that would appear during the utilization of literary works in the Korean language class were classified into two categories, and their solutions were sought. First, the problems included the following: even in case of using literary works, the class was still designed as “linguistic proficiency”-oriented, and “literary works” that are recognized as “canons” in Korean language and literature education were borrowed without any modification. This paper proposed an “approach to Korean culture from a storytelling perspective” as one solution. This method is focused not on the canon-oriented Korean culture class, but on the pursuit of the meaning of Korean culture through specific situations. Accordingly, this method approaches the characteristics of Korean culture through a semantic context without focusing on vocabulary and grammar. In particular, this paper intended to approach “Korean culture” with a storytelling method by utilizing Korean novels as a text, and this enables an easier approach.
