국문 초록

『파친코』는 현재 세계에서 베스트셀러 열풍을 일으키고 있는 작품이다. 애플TV+ 에서 『파친코』를 드라마로 제작하면서 더욱 주목받기 시작했다. 『파친코』는 4대에 걸친 재일교포 가족소설이다. 그러나 역사소설이기도 하다. 1 9 0 0년대 초부터1989년까지 한국과 일본의 역사를 누구보다 객관적으로, 담담하고 정직하게 서술하고 있다. ‘선자’라는 한국 여인의 4대에 걸친 가족, 사랑, 이별, 운명, 극복이 담긴 서사. 이러한 한국적 정서와 한국의 역사가 세계인의 공감을 불러일으킨다는 것에 깜짝 놀라지않을 수 없다. 작가 이민진은 ‘한’으로 점철된 한국인의 정서를 담백한 문체로 서술하고, 한국 이민자의 역사를 간결하게 담아냈다. 작가는 2권의 장편소설이라 자칫 지루하고 늘어질 수 있는 작품을 여러 장으로 구분하고 있다. 그리고 장마다 새로운 에피소드를 담아내고 있다. ‘소설은 재미있어야 한다’는 작가의 신념에 맞게 책을 손에서놓을 수 없게 하는 흡입력을 갖추고 있는 작품이다. 이민진 작가는 역사를 재미있는 소설 속에 담아내고 있다. 『파친코』는 인간의 본성과 정직한 역사에 대한 담백한 서술이고, 현 시대의 다문화를 애달프게 반영하고 있는 소설이다. 그래서 많은 세계인들이 그의 작품에 공감하고 호응할 수 있는 듯하다. 『파친코』는, 이제는 차별과 혐오의 역사를 끝내고 정직한 역사를 이끌어가야 한다는메시지를 보내고 있다. 그리고 다문화 시대에 소수자로 살고 있는 이민자들이 차별이라는 수수께끼를 어떻게 풀어내고 극복해야 하는지, 그 방향을 제시하고 있는 소설이라 할 수 있겠다.

영문 초록

『Pachinko』 is a work that is currently creating a craze for bestsellers in the world. It began to attract more attention when it was made into a drama on Apple TV+. 『Pachinko』 is a novel of a Korean-Japanese family spanning four generations. But it is also a historical novel. It describes the history of Korea and Japan from the early 1900s to 1989 more objectively, calmly and honestly than anyone else. A narrative of a Korean woman named ‘Sunja’ that spans four generations of family, love, parting, fate, and overcoming. I can't help but be surprised that these Korean sentiments and Korean history arouse sympathy from people around the world. Writer Lee Min-jin describes the sentiments of Koreans dotted with ‘Han’ in a plain style and concisely captures the history of Korean immigrants. Since the author is a two-volume novel, he divides the work that can be boring and lengthy into several chapters. And each chapter contains a new episode. In line with the author's belief that ‘novels should be interesting’, this work has a suction power that makes it impossible to let go of the book. Writer Lee Min-jin puts history into an interesting novel. 『Pachinko』 is a simple narrative about human nature and honest history, and it is a novel that sadly reflects the multiculturalism of the present age. Therefore, it seems that many people around the world can sympathize and respond to his work. 『Pachinko』 is sending a message that we must now end the history of discrimination and hate and lead an honest history. And it can be said that it is a novel that suggests how immigrants living as minorities in the multicultural era must solve and overcome the riddle of discrimination.
