고전서사교육에서 문화적 격차의 인식과 해소 방안

국문 초록

본 논의는 고전 텍스트에 대한 해석이 어떻게 동시대성을 획득할 수 있는가에 관심을 가지며 <바리공주>를 통해 그 구체적인 방향과 절차를 제시하고자 한다. 먼저 <바리공주>에 대한 독자-학생들의 현대적 해석이 어떤 방식으로 이루어지고 있는지 웹툰 <바리공주>의 댓글을 통해 살핀다. 현대의 학생-독자들은 가족의 한 사람으로서바리가 처한 상황과 ‘여성’이라는 바리의 행위자적 자질을 중심으로 읽는다. 이러한현대 학생-독자들의 <바리공주>에 대한 이해는, 독자들이 처한 현대의 존재론적 조건에서 자유롭게 텍스트를 읽을 수 없음을 보여준다. 본고는 텍스트가 그 자체로 경험될 수 없음을 인정할 때 텍스트와 수용자 사이의 쌍방향성이 가능해진다고 보고 과거의 지평을 절대시하거나 무시하지 않으면서 과거와 현재의 해석적 순환을 가능하게하는 방안을 고려한다. 이 과정의 시작점은 고전에 객관적으로 내재했다고 생각되는 약호가 아니라, 현대의 문화를 통해 이해되고 재구성된 약호들이다. 본고는 현대의 문화를 통해 고전을새롭게 읽고 그렇게 새롭게 조명된 약호를 가지고 다시 현대의 문화를 성찰하는 해석학적 순환의 과정을 제시하면서 구체적 절차를 다음과 같이 분절하였다. (1) 고전의 낯선 지점에 대해 인식하는 ‘현대와의 간극 느끼기’이다. 현재와는 다른 지점을 고전 텍스트에서 적극적으로 살펴보고 경험한다. (2) ‘현대적 약호로 고전 읽기’로 학생들이 중시하는 현대적 규범, 가치, 기준에서부터 비롯된 약호를 가지고 고전을 읽으면서 약호에 대한 가치체계의 전도, 약호를 구현하는 세부적인 방식(여성성과 신성성의결합)을 살핀다. 마지막은 (3) 고전을 통해 ‘현대의 문화를 성찰’하는 단계로 현대문화의 요소들이 구성적이며 불안정할 수 있음을 이해하는 단계이다. 이상의 과정을 통해 독자-학생들이 과거와 현재의 문화를 넘나드는 경계경험을 하고 이방인이라는 새로운 정체성, 일회적으로 사라지지 않으며 필요할 때마다 유용하게 발현될 수 있는 정체성을 가질 수 있다고 본다. 이러한 정체성은 현대문화의 정상성을 재고하면서 그것이 변화할 가능성을 도모하는 단초가 된다는 점에서 유의미하다.

영문 초록

This discussion examines how the interpretation of classical texts can acquire contemporaneity, pretents specific directions and procedures through a consideration of Princess Bari. First, we examine how readers-students’ modern interpretation of Princess Bari is conducted through the comments on the webtoon Princess Bari. Modern students-readers focus on Bari’s situation as a member of the family and Bari’s actor quality of ‘female’. This understanding of Princess Bari by modern students-readers shows that they cannot read a text freely under the modern ontological conditions facing readers. This study considers that the interativity between the text and the audience becomes possible when it is acknowledged that the text cannot be experienced by itself and considers ways to enable the interpretive cycle of the past and the present without absolutely neglecting or ignoring the past horizon. The starting point of this process is not the codes thought to be objectively inherent in classics, but the codes understood and reconstructed through modern culture. This study presents the process of an analytical cycle of newly reading classics through modern culture and reflecting on modern culture with a newly illuminated abbreviation as follows. (1) It is a “feeling a gap with the modern world” that recognizes unfamiliar points in classics. I actively examine and experience points different from the present in the classical text. (2) With the abbreviation that students value from modern norms, values, and standards, we examine the detailed ways of implementing the abbreviation and the evangelism of the value system for the abbreviation (combination of femininity and divinity) while reading the classics. (3) We work to reflect on modern culture through the classics, and to understand that elements of modern culture can be constructive and unstable. Through the above process, readers and students can experience boundaries between past and present cultures, affirm a new identity as a foreigner, and gain an identity that does not disappear ever and can be useful whenever necessary. This identity is significant in that it is the starting point for rethinking the normality of modern culture and promoting the possibility of change.
