야담에 드러난 조선 후기 영남지역 인식 연구

국문 초록

이 논문은 주체와 조응하는 환경의 중요성에 주목하는 측면에서 근대 이전 지역인식의 양상을 살피고 그 교육적 의의를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 다양한 근대 이전의 문헌자료들을 통해 영남지역에 대한 기존 지역인식을 고찰한 후, 조선 후기 대표적인 야담집인 청구야담 , 계서야담 , 이조한문단편선 의 야담 자료를 중심으로 외부와 내부에서 보는 보다 심층적인 지역인식의 면모를 밝혀내고자 하였다. 문집의 여러 기록들에서 드러나는 영남지역에 대한 인식은 유학과 사림파의 본고장으로서 풍속이 온유돈후하고 아름답다는 인식과 함께 조선 후기에 가면 정치적인 분쟁으로 인해 그러한 풍속이 약간은 훼손되었다는 인식이 드러나는 것으로 보인다. 영남지역을 배경으로 한 이야기들 중에서 관찰사나 암행어사와 같은 행정관이 등장하는 이야기들이 많은 것은 이러한 조선 후기의 정치적 상황 속에서 인구도 많고, 사림 집단이 있어 여론 형성의 주된 지역이라 할 수 있는 영남지역에 대한 지배층의 관심이 컸다는 것을 의미하는 것이다. 이는 서울과 같은 중앙의 수도나 여타의 다른 지역 사람들이 바라보고 파악하는 영남지역에 대한 지역 인식이 반영된 결과라 할 수 있다. 그런데 영남지역을 배경으로 한 야담들 중에서 가장 많은 수를 차지하는 것은 영남지역의 문제를 이름 없는 영남사람이 해결하는 작품들이고, 이를 통해 영남사람들 스스로 가지고 있던 지역민으로서의 주체적인 인식을 파악할 수 있다. 이러한 야담작품들에는 외부에서 규율하고 개입하려는 중앙정부라는 타자의 욕망과 스스로를 지역 구성원으로 인정하는 아래에서 자신들의 힘으로 지역의 문제를 해결해나가고자 했던 영남인들 스스로의 자기인식과 욕망 등이 복합적으로 드러나는 양상을 보여준다. 기존의 문헌들과 달리, 당대 사람들의 이야기 향유과정에서 정착한 이야기인 야담은 다양한 사회구성원들의 인식이 반영된 산물이므로, 지역과 관련한 복합적인 내·외부의 인식을 작품 안에 담고 있다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 지역인식과 관련한 과거의 문학향유 양상을 이해하는 것은 언어를 통해 이루어진 문학 향유를 통해 공동체 구성원으로서 자기를 이해하고 나아가 공동체를 ‘만들어’나갔던 사례를 이해하는 것으로서 문학작품이 가질 수 있는 고차적원적인 사회문화작용을 이해한다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 이는 언어작용을 통해 자신이 터한, 그리고 자신의 주변 공간과 환경을 구획하는 틀이 형성되는 기제에 대해 이해한다는 점에서 문학작품에 대한 이해를 토대로 환경에 대한 이해와 변화, 나아갈 방향을 모색하는 문학교육적 측면에서 의미를 가진다. 인간의 행위, 즉, 인간의 노력과 환경의 조응을 통해서 무언가 의미 있는 일이 일어난다고 했을 때, 그 한 축인 환경에 대한 이해를 심화할 때 인간의 주체적인 사고와 판단에 기반한 행동 또한 보다 적극적이고 기민한 방식으로 이루어질 수 있을 것이기 때문이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this thesis is to examine the aspects of pre-modern regional perception in terms of paying attention to the importance of the subject and the corresponding environment and to examine its educational significance. After examining the existing regional perceptions of the Yeongnam region through various pre-modern literature materials, it can be seen from outside and inside, focusing on the tales of “Cheonggyeong Yadam”, “Gyeseo Yadam”, and “Leejo Korean Short Story”, which are representative collections of fairy tales from the late Joseon Dynasty. Bo tried to reveal the aspect of a more in-depth regional awareness. The perception of the Yeongnam region revealed in the various records of the literary collections seems to reveal that the customs were gentle and beautiful as the home of Confucianism and the Sarim sect. Among the stories set in the Yeongnam region, there are many stories in which an administrator such as a governor or an ambassador appears. This means that the interest of the ruling class was great. This can be said to be the result of reflecting the local perception of the Yeongnam region as seen and understood by people in the central capital such as Seoul or other regions. However, among the tales set in the Yeongnam region, the largest number are works in which an unnamed Yeongnam man solves problems in the Yeongnam region, and through this, it is possible to grasp the subjective perception of the Yeongnam people themselves as local residents. These gossip works are complex of the desire of others as the central government to regulate and intervene from the outside, and the self-awareness and desire of the Yeongnam people who tried to solve local problems with their own power under the recognition of themselves as local members. shows the appearance of Unlike the existing literature, yadam, a story settled in the process of enjoying the story of the people of the time, is a product that reflects the perceptions of various members of society, so it is meaningful in that it contains complex internal and external perceptions related to the region in the work. To understand the aspects of literary enjoyment in the past related to regional awareness is to understand the case of understanding oneself as a member of a community through the enjoyment of literature through language, and furthermore, to understand the case of creating a community. It is meaningful in terms of understanding cultural action. This is literature that seeks to understand and change the environment based on the understanding of literary works, in that it understands the mechanism by which the framework for partitioning the space and environment is formed through the interaction of language. It is meaningful from an educational point of view. When it is said that something meaningful happens through human action, that is, human effort and the response of the environment, when we deepen our understanding of the environment, which is one axis, actions based on human subjective thoughts and judgments are also more active and Because it can be done in an agile way.
