국문 초록

이 논문은 강원도 고성의 문학적 심상을 분석하고 지역의 심상이 지역의 정체성과 어떻게 연관되는지에 대해 논하고자 한 글이다. 고성은 강원도 동북부에 위치한 군 단위의 행정구역이다. 한반도가 남북으로 분단된 상황에서 사실상 한국 최북단에 위치한 지역이다. 분단 이후 절반 정도의 면적은 남한에, 나머지 절반 정도의 면적은 북한에 속하게 되었다. 고성은 인근 지역에 비해서도 상대적으로 사회적 주목을 받지 못했고, 문학 연구 분야에서도 소외되어 왔다. 한반도에 대한 감각과 감회를 불러일으키는 고성의 독특한 성격에 주목하고, 그동안 지역 문학 연구에서 소외되었던 한 지역을 논의의 영역으로 편입하려는 시도의 일환으로, 한시 문학에 나타난 고성의 심상에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 『신증동국여지승람(新增東國輿地勝覽)』에 수록되어 있는 고성 제영시(題詠詩)를 연구 대상으로 삼았다. 『신증동국여지승람』은 지역 정보를 서술하는 다양한 항목에 시를 실어 두고 있다. 시는 산천, 누정, 역원, 불우 등의 항목에서 각 항목에 속하는 구체적 장소들을 표현하고, 제영 항목에서는 지역 전체를 드러내는 역할을 한다. 제영과 그 외 다른 항목들은 시를 수록한 형식과 양상에서 차이를 보인다. 고성 지역 내 다양한 장소들을 읊은 제영시들은 이계를 연상시키는 기이한 비경, 풍류를 일으키는 장쾌한 풍광, 의식을 전환시키는 고요한 풍경의 세 가지 심상을 보여주는 것으로 분석되었다. 제영 항목에 수록된 시에서 고성의 심상은 천혜의 승지와 적막한 벽지라는 두 심상으로 집약되었다. 대비되는 두 심상은 시인이 대상을 접한 계기, 대상과 맺고 있는 관계, 내면의 상태 등의 차이를 보여주는 것이다. 지역에 대한 심상은 개인의 개별적 경험과 성향에 의해 달라질 수 있다. 개인의 서로 다른 경험들은 무질서하고 불균질해 보이지만, 그것들이 사람들에게 공유되며 통합되거나 대별되어 가는 과정 속에서 일관된 심상을 구축한다. 마음속에 뚜렷이 존재하는 심상은 지역의 정체성으로 정립된다. 경험이 모여 심상이 되고 심상이 다시 정체성으로 연결되는 지역 이해의 과정을 『신증동국여지승람』의 고성 제영시를 통해 살펴볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study is intended to analyze the literary image of Goseong, Gangwon-do, and discuss how the image of the region is related to the area s identity. Goseong is a Gun-level administrative district located in the northeastern part of Gangwon-do. In a situation where the Korean Peninsula was divided into North and South Korea, it is located in the northernmost part of Korea. After the division of Goseong, about half of the area belonged to South Korea, and the other half belonged to North Korea. Goseong has not received relatively much social attention compared to neighboring regions and has been marginalized in literary research. As part of an attempt to focus on the unique character of Goseong, which evokes a sense and emotion on the Korean Peninsula, and to incorporate a region that has been neglected in regional literature studies in the past into the realm of discussion, the purpose of this study is to examine the image of Goseong in Korean poetry literature. The subject of this study is Jeyoung Poetry(題詠詩) of Goseong recorded in 『Shinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungram(新增東國輿地勝覽)』. 『Shinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungram』 contains poems in various articles describing local information. The poem expresses specific places belonging to each category, such as Sancheone, Nujeong, Yeokwon, and Bulwoo, and plays a role in revealing the entire region in the Jeyoung category. Jeyoung and other items show a difference in the form and aspect of the poem. Jeyoung Poetry reciting various places in the Goseong area was analyzed to show three images: a bizarre unseen scene reminiscent of another world, a pleasant scenery that evokes a sense of style, and a tranquil view that transforms consciousness. The images of Goseong in the poems included in the section of Jeyoung are condensed into two images: the blessed land and the desolate area. The two contrasting images show the difference between the poet s moment of contact with the object, the relationship he/she has with the thing, and his/her inner state. The image of a region can be changed according to an individual s individual experiences and inclinations. Different personal experiences appear chaotic and inhomogeneous, but they are shared by people and build a coherent image in the process of being integrated or separated. The image clearly present in mind is established as the region s identity. Through Jeyoung poetry of Goseong, we can examine the process of regional understanding in which experiences are gathered to form images, and images are connected back to identity.
