국문 초록

이 연구는 Chen & Starosta의 상호문화적 감수성 척도(intercultural sensitivity scale, ISS)를 바탕으로 한국어 버전의 측정 도구를 개발하고, 요인 구조를 분석하여이를 타당화하였다. 한국의 고등학생과 대학생을 표본으로 삼아 324명의 응답에 대해 탐색적 요인분석을 실시한 결과 5요인 24문항으로 구성된 Chen & Starosta의 본래 척도는 4요인 17문항으로 재구성되었으며, “문화적 차이에 대한 존중”과 “상호작용 향유도”가 단일한 요인을 형성하고 있었다. 새로운 표본 360명을 대상으로 확인적요인분석을 실시한 결과 모형 적합도와 수렴타당도, 변별타당도가 모두 양호한 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 요인 구조에 대한 진지한 고민이 수반되지 않을 채 국내에서 관습적으로광범위하게 사용되던 Chen & Starosta의 상호문화적 감수성 척도를 타당화하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 다른 문화권의 버전에서 문제가 되던 “상호작용 주의도”가 고유한 속성을 안정적으로 보인 반면, “상호작용 참여도”가 다른 요인들과 높은 상관을보인 점은 한국의 고등학생, 대학생 표본의 인식에 나타난 특수한 결과로 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study developed the Korean version of Chen and Starosta’s intercultural sensitivity scale (ISS) and validated it by analyzing the factor structure. As a result of selecting high school and college students in Korea as a sample and applying an exploratory factor analysis to the responses of 324 people, the original scale of five factors (24 items) was reconstructed into four factors (17 items). “Respect for cultural difference” and “interaction enjoyment” formed a single factor. Confirmatory factor analysis of 360 newly sampled subjects revealed both model fit and convergent and discriminant validity were satisfactory. This study is meaningful in that it validated the ISS, which is conventionally and widely used in Korea, without checking the factor structure. While “interaction attentiveness,” which was an issue in versions from other cultures, showed stable intrinsic properties, the high intercorrelation between “interaction engagement” and other factors can be considered an observable result in the recognition of high school and college students in Korea.
