‘이야기 문법’을 활용한 이야기 비교 방안 연구

국문 초록

본고에서는 이야기의 각 내용들 사이의 관계를 구체화하는 이야기의 내적 구조(맨들러와 존슨)인 ‘이야기 문법(story grammar)’을 활용하여 한국어 학습자가 한국 이야기와 자국 이야기를 같은 층위에서 비교·고찰하는 교재 구성 방안을 제시했다. 이야기 문법의 구체적인 항목은 루멜하트가 제시한 ‘배경(장소, 인물, 시간), 시발 사건, 내적 반응, 시도, 결과, 결말’ 6가지로 설정했다. 현재 각 대학 기관에서 사용되고 있는 9종 교재 11개 과에서 학습자가 자국의 이야기를 소개하는 발문이 개방적이고 광범위함을 한계로 보았다. 이에 학습자의 스키마를 활성화시키기 위해서 이야기의 내적 구조를 파악할 수 있는 이야기 문법의 활용이필요함을 주장했다. 신데렐라 형 이야기인 한국의 <콩쥐팥쥐>와 러시아의 <바실리사>를 대상으로 이야기 문법의 적용 가능성을 타진했다. 이야기 문법을 활용하여 횡적으로는 각국의 신데렐라 이야기를 비교할 수 있도록 했고, 종적으로는 최근에 출판된 리베카 솔닛의 『해방자 신데렐라』를 소개하는 데 활용했다. 본 논의 결과를 한국어 강의실에서 적용해보고 학습자들의 반응을 고찰하는 것을 과제로 남긴다.

영문 초록

In this article, Korean learners compare and examine Korean stories and their own stories at the same level by using ‘story grammar’, which is the internal structure of the story (Mandler and Johnson) that embodies the relationship between each content of the story. A method for organizing the textbook was presented. The specific items of the story grammar were set into six categories: ‘background (place, person, time), initial event, internal reaction, trial, result, and ending’ suggested by Rummelhart. The limit observed in 11 chapters of 9 textbooks used in universities was that learners introduced their own stories in an open and wide range. Therefore, it was argued in this article that in order to activate the learner’s schema, it is necessary to use the story grammar that can grasp the internal structure of the story. The applicability of story grammar was investigated for Cinderella-type stories, that is in Korea and Vasilisa in Russia. The story grammar was used to compare Cinderella stories from different countries horizontally, and it was used to introduce Rebecca Solnit’s recently published 『Cinderella the Liberator』 vertically. The remaining task would be considering learners’ reactions after applying the results of this discussion in the Korean language classroom.
