국문 초록

연구목적 본 연구는 고등학교 영미문학읽기 수업 중 학생들이 작성한 독서 반응 편지에 나타난 문학 텍스트에 대한 질문과 반응의 유형을 살펴보고, 심미적 읽기와 비판적 읽기의 이론적 틀에서 독서 반응 편지 쓰기 활동의 교육적 가치를 알아보고자 한다. 연구방법 질적 분석 도구를 사용하여 독서 반응 편지로부터 추출된 148개의 질문과 448개의 반응을 개방코딩 및 주제 도출의 반복적인 과정을 통해 귀납적으로 분석하였다. 연구결과 연구 결과, 학생들은 비판적, 개인적, 문학적 질문을 고르게 사용하였으며, 문학 작품에 대해 정서적이고 인지적인 차원에서 통합된 다양하고 풍부한 반응을 나타냈다. 특히 텍스트에 대한 개인적이고 정서적인 접근에서 비판적인 접근으로 점차 나아가는 경향성이 발견되었다. 또한, 학생들은 문학 텍스트를 자신의 삶 또는 사회문화적 맥락과 연결짓고, 다양한 관점에서 의미를 해석하고 협상하는 주체적인 독자의 모습을 보여주었다. 결론 독서 반응 편지 쓰기 활동은 학생 간 신뢰와 정서적 유대를 바탕으로 자유롭게 질문하고 생각을 공유하는 소통의 문화를 형성하였으며, 결론적으로 학생들이 성찰적 읽기와 역동적 읽기의 태도를 함양하고, 심미적 읽기와 비판적 읽기 측면에서 균형 있게 발달한 독자로 성장하도록 도와주었다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study examines the reader response letters of high school students taking an English literature class with the aim to identify the kinds of questions and responses written in the letters and explore the educational values of writing a reader response letter in relation to aesthetic and critical reading. Methods: 148 questions and 448 responses were elicited from the reader response letters of ten pairs of the students and analyzed qualitatively for categorization and qualification. Results: The result of the study revealed that the students developed the ability to make questions on the personal, critical, and literary level and that they produced a depth and breadth of responses, which demonstrated the students’ engagement with the text moving steadily from the affective and personal to the critical. Also, the five themes were elicited as for the qualities of this activity: a) encouraging students’ learner autonomy; b) promoting multiple interpretations and active negotiation of meaning; c) facilitating responses to literary styles and creative synthesis; d) advancing students critical literacy; and e) integrating affective and cognitive responses. Conclusion: The findings suggested that reader response letters are helpful in integrating the students aesthetic and critical approach to literary texts and facilitating both reflective and dynamic reading practices by building a community culture of ‘asking’ and ‘sharing’ in the literature class.
