경산지역 수용기 횡혈식석실묘의 축조세력과 배경

국문 초록

5세기 경산 임당지구의 고총은 다른 지역에서는 찾아볼 수 없는 암광목곽묘(岩壙木槨墓)를 주된 묘제로 사용하였다. 그런데 5세기 4/4분기 몇몇 고총에서는 외래적 묘제(墓制)와 장제(葬制)인 횡혈식석실묘(橫穴式石室墓)를 돌발적이고 단발적으로 채용한다. 이들 석실묘의 축조는 지속되지 않고 다시 고유 묘제인 암광목곽묘로 회귀한다. 이러한 초기 횡혈식석실묘를 축조한 주인공은 고분의 입지, 기존 고총과의 연접상태, 고분의 규모, 출토유물 등을 종합할 때 임당지역 최고 지배자였음을 알 수 있다. 이들은 신라 중앙을 비롯한 외부 세력과 활발한 상호작용을 통해 획득한 새로운 묘제에 대한 정보를 토대로 횡혈식석실묘를 선구적으로 채용한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이는 지역 유력자가 지역사회에 그들의 대외활동 능력과 선진문화에 대한 정보력을 과시하고 이를 통해 지역사회를 보다 효율적으로 지배하기 위한 수단이 작용했을 것으로 보인다.

영문 초록

The ancient tombs at the Imdang site of Gyeongsan in the 5th century mostly come in wooden chamber with stone mounds, which are not found in other sites. However, some ancient tombs built in the fourth quarter of the 5th century adopted the stone chamber tombs, which reflects a foreign tomb and ritual culture in an abrupt and single-event manner. These stone-structured tombs did not last long and returned to the original form of tomb, which is a wooden chamber with stone mounds. These early-stage tombs indicate that their owners are the highest rulers of the Imdang site at the time, considering their location, size, connection with the other ancient tombs, the excavated relics in a comprehensive manner. It is believed that they pioneered the use of the stone chamber tombs based on the information on new tombs obtained through active interactions with external forces, including Silla s central powers. It also indicates that local influential figures used such tombs as a means to show off their ability to engage in international activities and to obtain information about advanced cultures and to ensure their governance and control over the community in a more effective manner.
