국문 초록

노동자 생활글은 1980년대 노동운동의 범주 속에서 실천된 노동자 글쓰기의 한 유형이다. 생활글은 1970년대 노동자 수기의 성과를 이어받은 것으로, 1980년대 생활글 모음집으로 묶여 나오며 사회적 역할을 담당했다. 노동자 생활글은 노동자의 주체성과 계급성을 형상화하는 노동자 문학의 중요한 양식이었으며, 엘리트 중심의 문학담론에 대한 저항이라는 의미도 부여받았다. 그러나 지금까지 연구의 관심은 본격 노동소설에 맞춰져 노동자 생활글의 문학성에 관한 논의는 본격적으로 진행되지 않았다. 1990년대 이후 생활글의 공간은 축소되고 문학성의 논의도 중단된 듯이 보인다. 이때 생활글은 10여 년의 짧은 시기에 표출된 글쓰기 운동의 한 양태로 고립될 수 있다. 이 글에서는 노동자 생활글이 단독적으로 존재한 것이 아니라 노동자 문학의 전체 공간에 어떤 의의를 가지고 있으며 상황에 따라 어떻게 확장해갔는지를 살펴보았다. 생활글은 소박한 글쓰기라는 자기규정에 묶여 있지만, 노동자 주체성과 계급성이라는 지향점에 따라 노동문학으로서 다양한 실천양상으로 전개된다. 즉 노동자 생활글은 매체의 특성에 따라 세련된 글쓰기로 이어지기도 하며, 본격적인 소설 양식과 접속하기도 한다. 이것이 가능한 데에는 글쓰기에 대한 자각과 문학 양식과의 적극적인 교섭 의지가 있었기 때문이다. 그로 인해 생활글은 노동문학의 지평을 개척할 수 있었으며, 학술장에서 생애사 서술을 통해 노동자 리터러시(literacy)에 대한 분석을 가능케 한 근원이 되었다. 1990년대 노동운동이 약화되면서 노동자 생활글도 다른 양상으로 전개되는데, 전태일 문학상의 생활글 부문이 그 양상을 잘 보여준다. 전태일 문학상의 생활글은 이미 대중매체와의 경합 속에서 전개되었으며, 매체의 영향력 속에서 정형화되고 대중적인 글쓰기로 확산되었음을 알 수 있다. 이처럼 노동자 생활글은 글쓰기의 한 양식으로 비정형의 양식성으로 인해 다양한 방향으로 확장될 수 있었다. 생활글은 노동문학의 범주 속에서 새로운 글쓰기를 실험하는 능동적인 문예 양식으로 기능할 것으로 평가된다.

영문 초록

The life-writings of working class are a type of the literature of the working class practiced in the category of the labor movement in the 1980s. The life-writings inherited the laborer s essays in the 1970s, and it was published in a collection of life-writings in the 1980s and played a social role. Although the life-writings, which is part of laborer s literature, was noted as a form that embodies the self-reliance and classiness of working class, and was given the meaning of resistance to the elite-centered literary discourse, discussions on its literary nature were not carried out in earnest in connection with the labor novels. Since the 1990s, the space for the life-writings has been reduced and discussions on literary nature seem to have stopped. At this time, the life-writings can be isolated as a form of writing movement expressed in a short period of 10 years. In this article, looking at the significance of the life-writings of working class, not the existence of it alone, but the significance of the whole space of the literature of the working class and how it expanded according to the circumstances. Although the life-writings are bound by the self-regulation of ’simple writing’, the writing of working class is carried out in various ways by the direction of the subjectivity and class of laborers. Depending on the characteristics of the media, it can lead to refined writing, and it can be connected to the true novels. This is possible because there was awareness of writing and willingness to negotiate actively with literary forms. As a result, the life-writings pioneered the horizon of labor literature and became the source of the analysis of the literacy of working class through the life-long history of the academic world. With the weakening of the labor movement in the 1990s, the writing of working class also unfolded in a different way, and the life-writings section of the Jeon Tae-il Literary Award(전태일 문학상) shows the aspect well. It can be seen that Jeon Tae-il s writings in literature have already been developed in competition with the mass media, and have spread to formalized and popular writing under the influence of the media. As such, the writings of the working class were a form of writing that could be extended in various directions due to the unformatted formality. The life-writings are considered to function as an active literary style experimenting with new writing mode within the category of labor literature.
