국문 초록

본 연구에서는 지금까지 많이 다루어지지 않았던 전역-국소 처리에서의 성별 차이를 살펴보기 위하여 시공간적 의미를 내포하고 있는 화살표 복합자극의 전역속성과 국소속성이 나타내는 공간적 방향의 일치여부에 따라 전역/국소속성에 대한 반응이 성별에 따라 어떻게 차별화되는지 비교하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 실험조건에 따라 실험참가자 수행을 전반적으로 비교하면 남성이 여성에 비해, 전역-국소 불일치 조건보다는 일치조건에서, 그리고 국소속성 반응보다는 전역속성 반응이 요구되었을 때 반응시간이 더 빨랐고 오반응률은 더 낮았다. 둘째, 전역속성 반응과 비교한 국소속성 반응에서의 수행 저하는 남성이 경우 전역-국소 일치조건에서, 반면 여성의 경우는 전역-국소 불일치 조건에서 더 컸다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 전역/국소속성 반응에서 성별에 따라 전역/국소속성의 일치여부가 차별적으로 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 확인하였고, 이러한 전역-국소 처리에서의 성별에 따른 차이를 이해하는데 주의를 포함하는 지각 수준뿐만 아니라 장의존성 등과 같은 인지양식 수준도 함께 고려해야 할 필요성을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

In this study, gender difference in global-local processing for the compound stimuli constructed with left- or right-arrow was investigated. The participants were instructed to press left or right arrow keys based on the direction of global or local arrows in the compound stimuli in which global and local properties were consistently or inconsistently constructed. The results are followings. First, in general, faster and more accurate responses were observed in males, global processing or global-local consistent condition than females, local processing, or global-local inconsistent condition, respectively. Second, decrease in the performance for local processing compared to global processing of males was larger in global-local consistent condition than females, whereas that of females was larger in global-local inconsistent condition than males. This results indicated that difference between gender in cognitive styles including field dependence as well as in attentional or perceptual bias should be considered together to understand the gender difference in global-local processing.
