일본인의 해양이향관(海洋異鄕觀) 고찰

국문 초록

濟州道の人々に信じられてきた海の彼方の異郷であるイヨドは、海中に ある暗礁のイオドが発見されたあと、その実存や観念が作り上げられた経緯などに対するさまざまな意見が出されてきた。本稿ではイヨドが観念上の島であり、それに描かれているイメージは普遍性を持つという見地から、それを日本の常世、女護嶋、そして沖縄のニライカナイとの比較を通して明らかにしようとした。 その結果、日本の三異郷に現われるイメージの重層性、または明暗とい う両面性は、豊穣の島、あの世、仙境などのイメージを持つイヨドに共通し、さらにその成り立ちにおいても本来の観念である豊穣の島に、別の諸形相が結び付いて、多層のイメージを作り出した様相とも類似している。又、歓楽と死が交差する女島としてのイヨドの観念をも、明暗の両面性を持つ女護嶋の性格に通じており、海に囲まれている島の人々が抱いた共通の世界観であったことが確認できる。以上のようなイヨドと日本の三異郷の類似性は島国という同じ環境の中で海洋民族の各々の考え方がもたらした普遍的な現象と解釈できる。

영문 초록

As for Iyeodo that Jeju people have imagined for a sea, ‘Ieodo‐like Socotra Rock’ of an underwater rock was discovered and so people have different opinions pertaining to issues such as how it was made, whether it exists or not, and etc. In this study, we attempt to have a solid aspect that Iyeodo is a conceptual island and its symbol is universal, through searching concepts on ‘Tokoyo’, ‘Nyogonoshima(女護島)’, and ‘Nirai Kanai’ in Okinawa, which Japanese people have thought about marine areas showing similarity in many aspects. As a result of analyzing these three another worlds in Japan, the double‐sided image of the overlapped brightness and darkness and features of its formation for them are common to the image of Iyeodo, which is passed down to the island of abundance of the original thoughts, the afterlife, enchanted land, and etc. The similarities between these two countries can only be thought of as a universal phenomenon caused by the thoughts of each maritime peoples in the same environment of island nations.
