국문 초록

현대미술에 있어서 회화와 만화가 갖는 경계는 점차 모호해지고 있으며 만화적인 회화, 회화적인 만화의 출현이 빈번해지고 있다. 각 시대의 역사적, 문화적 흐름에 따라 변화해온 회화와 만화의 수평적, 수직적, 직접적, 간접적 공생은 상당한 미술사적 의의를 품고 있다. 본 논문의 목적은 지난 몇 세기부터 현대미술에 이르기까지 필수 불가결한 관계를 맺어 온 회화와 만화를 심도 있게 분석하고 나열하여 두 예술의 관계 속에서 파생된 새로운 형태의 예술에 대한 표면적, 내용적 측면의 연구에 있다. 미국의 ‘코믹스’의 기원인 ‘다중 삽화’와 ‘시사만화’는 도미에, 피카소와 같은 회화작가로부터 예술적, 정치적 가치를 띄며 비롯되었다. 이를 기점으로 점층적으로 대중화된 만화 콘텐츠는 1960년대 팝아트를 통해 저급문화에서 고급문화로의 도약과 반전에 성공하였고 코믹스를 보고 자란 서양 현대 미술가들에게 있어서 만화가 그들의 작품에 차지하는 비중은 날이 갈수록 높아지는 추세이다. 일본의 ‘망가’ 또한 풍속화인 ‘우키요에’를 기원으로 하며, 호쿠사이 등을 통해 인상주의나 그 후 서양미술사에 지대한 영향을 끼쳤다. 1980년대 이후 일본의 만화산업은 세계 최대 만화 시장을 자랑하는 사태에 이르렀고, 이를 바탕으로 만화는 일본의 대표적인 서브컬처인 오타쿠 미술의 발전을 야기하였다. 현대미술을 대표하는 수많은 예술가에게서 보이는 만화적 표현을 가미한 현대회화는, 만화를 아동문화의 산물에서 예술의 핵심 키워드로 탈바꿈시키고 있다. 그러나 만화는 지금까지도 그 가치를 크게 인정받지 못하거나, 일부 무시당하는 상황에 있다. 따라서, 본 연구는 회화적 시점으로 바라본 만화의 중요성에 대해 심층적으로 연구하고 고찰하는 것에 근거한다.

영문 초록

In modern art, the boundaries between paintings and comics are becoming increasingly blurred. The appearance of cartoon-like paintings and pictorial cartoons are becoming more frequent. The horizontal, vertical, direct, and indirect symbiosis of paintings and comics have changed according to the historical and cultural flows of each era, and each symbiosis has had a historical significance on art. The purpose of this paper is to study the surface and content aspects of a new type of art derived from the relationship between paintings and comics. This study will utilize in-depth analysis and lists of paintings and comics from the last few centuries to contemporary art that have formed indispensable relationships. Artists such as Honoré Daumier and Pablo Picasso have described the origins of the American &comics,& &multi-episodic,& and &editorial cartoons& as artistic value and political value. Comics gradually became more popular based on the aforementioned mindset. In the 1960s, pop art succeeded in growing from low culture to high culture. Western contemporary artists who grew up reading comics have undergone a daily increase in the proportion of cartoon images used in their works. Japanese manga originated from ukiyo-e, a Japanese genre of painting. The art of ukiyo-e as seen through the works of Katsushika Hokusai has had a profound effect on impressionism and Western art history. Since the 1980s, the Japanese manga industry has grown to boast the world s largest manga market. This has led to the development of otaku art, Japan s representative subculture. Modern painting styles, which combine cartoon expressions from many artists to represent contemporary art, transform cartoons from the products of children s culture into the key points of art. However, comics are generally not very appreciated, and tend to receive more disdain. Therefore, this study is based on the in-depth analysis and consideration of the importance of cartoons from the pictorial perspective.
