국문 초록

본 연구는 서울시 도시재생 사업의 일환인 ‘다시 세운’ 프로젝트를 통해 낙후된 세운상가가 어떻게 문화 생성의 공간으로 변화하는지 그 가능성을 탐색하는데 의의가 있다. 세운상가는 최초의 공공주도 재개발 프로젝트로 세워진 메가스트럭쳐(1966~1968)로서 당대 건축가였던 김수근의 건축에 대한 철학을 보여주고자 하였다. 하지만 1980년대부터 시작된 도심 내 상권 이동으로 인해 세운상가를 포함한 주변 상권은 약화 되고 그 지역이 슬럼화 되는 현상을 겪는다. 2000년대 들어 계속되는 재개발 논의에 끝에 2014년 세운상가가 가진 역사성을 인정받아 존치가 결정되고 2016년 도시재생 프로젝트인 ‘다시 세운’을 통해 세운상가를 새롭게 탈바꿈하기 위한 움직임이 시작된다. 본 연구는 ‘다시 세운’에서 진행된 문화·예술 프로젝트들을 분석함으로써 예술적 실천과 그에 따른 공간의 재생산을 연구하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 앙리 르페브르의 『공간의 생산』과 수잔 레이시의 『새로운 장르 공공미술』에 대해 고찰해보기로 한다. 더 나아가 ‘다시 세운’에서 기획되고 진행되는 다양한 프로젝트 사례들을 분석하고 그것의 장소 특정적 성격에 대해 살펴보기로 한다. ‘다시 세운’ 프로젝트는 죽어 있던 공간을 생산적인 공간으로 재생성 시키는데 그 목적이 있다. ‘다시 세운’의 문화 재생 프로젝트에 참여하는 주체들은 각자의 실천적인 역할을 통해 공간의 재생산을 제시하며 이전의 개발 주도 방식과는 다른 아래로부터의 공간 재구조화를 도모한다.

영문 초록

This study has significance in that it investigates how the decayed “Sewoon Sangga (Sewoon Plaza),” which had been prosperous at first, was changed into a space of cultural creation through the Project “Dasi Sewoon (Built Again),” part of the Seoul Urban Renewal Project. Sewoon Sangga is a megastructure built by the first regeneration project led by the government(1966~1968), which shows architect Kim Swoo-geun’s architectural philosophy. However, at the end of the 1980s, due to the migration of commercial districts at the center of the city, the surrounding commercial districts, including Sewoon Sangga, became weaker, and the area became a slum. As a result of the continuous discussion of redevelopment in the 2000s, there was a movement to revitalize Sewoon Sangga through an urban regeneration project, “Dasi Sewoon” in 2014. This study aims to discuss the reproduction of space through artistic practice in the Project “Dasi Sewoon.” For this purpose, this study would discuss Henri Lefebvre’s The Production of Space and Suzanne Lacy’s New Genre Public Art. Moreover, this study would investigate various cases of art projects planned and implemented through “Dasi Sewoon” and discuss its site-specific characteristics. The Project “Dasi Sewoon” aims to transform the dead space into productive one. The subjects who participated through the cultural renewal projects of “Dasi Sewoon” came to create the meaning of the space themselves. This study presents the possibility that cultural renewal projects can make a space that creates a new culture.
