상호관계로서의 무비즘(Mubism) 연구

국문 초록

2013년부터 홍경희는 융합적 오브제를 기반으로 하는 무비(Mubi) 시리즈를 통해 인간, 자연의 상호 관계성에 주목하며 이를 계기로 작업의 방향을 새롭게 전환하고 다양한 매체의 실험과 장르의 융합을 추진하였다. 무비라는 제목에서 짐작할 수 있듯이 그녀의 대표적인 스테인리스 스틸 선재 작업은 생명의 유기적인 에너지를 온전히 담고 있다. 그러나 오랜 기간 교육 현장의 중심에 있었던 이유로 창작자로서의 평가는 아직 부족한 이면이 있다고 생각된다. 이와 같은 상황을 인식하고 작가 연구논문의 형식을 빌려 홍경희의 무비 시리즈를 정리, 분석해 보려 한다. 우선 본 연구를 위해 무비즘(Mubism)이라는 용어를 작품 제목 무비에서 가져와 개념을 설정하고, 사례 작가 에바 헤세(Eva Hesse)와의 비교연구를 진행할 것이다. 이러한 절차를 거쳐 무비즘의 조형 언어를 찾아 그 의미를 순서대로 열거해 가며, 글의 주제에 맞추어 작품과 관객의 소통 즉, 정서 공간의 상호성에 대하여 중점적으로 살펴볼 것이다. 무비 연작의 실마리가 되는 금속 오브제는 높은 강도를 지닌 금속재료의 탄성을 유연하게 다루는 축적된 기술을 보여 준다. 또한, 금속의 유닛 구조는 미래파(Futurism) 또는 키네틱(Kinetic)의 연속되는 운동을 상기시키며, 기존 오브제 작업과는 다른 평면과 입체의 미묘한 변화와 시각적 혼재 그리고 인터렉티브(Interactive)한 공간까지 만들어 내고 있다. 한편으로 입체 오브제와 디지털 기법을 결합한 피그먼트 프린트(Pigment Print) 컬렉션은 평면과 입체의 환영적 효과로 관객에게 다가선다. 그것은 선, 색채, 구조, 동세 등 상관 요소의 이동을 보여주고 동시에 자아, 우주, 공기의 순환을 은유한다. 이 같은 정의는 처음부터 상호관계로서의 무비즘에 관한 새로운 경로를 찾아가는 탐색과 같다.

영문 초록

Since 2013, Hong, Kyunghee has focused on the interrelationship of humans and nature in the Mubi series through the fusion of objects. Based on this, she has re-designed the direction of her work and continued the fusion of genres with experiments of various media. As can be inferred from the title of Mubi, her representative work using stainless steel wire implies the organic energy of life. However, compared with her long-standing achievements in the university as an educator, Hong, Kyunghee s evaluation of the world of work is relatively week. In this situation, I am going to use the form of a general work research paper to explore the Hong, Kyunghee s Mubi series. To do this, first of all I will set up the concept of Mubism in the title of Hong, Kyunghee s work after 2013 and compare it with the installation of objects of Eva Hesse. Through this process, I will explore the visual language of Mubism and define its meanings in turn. In addition, as the subject of this paper shows, I will examine the communication between the work and the viewer, that is, the interactivity of emotional space. The metal objects, which is the basis of the Mubi series, are not easily classified into painting or sculpture, and show an accumulated techniques that flexibly handles the cohesive elasticity of metals. The unit structure of the metal bring up the image of the repeated movement of Futurism or Kinetic, creating subtle changes, visual mixing, and interactive spaces that differ from the existing objects. On the other hand, the pigment print series which is a combination of three-dimensional objects and digital techniques, presents the illusion effect of two- and three-dimensional to viewers. It shows the movement of correlation elements such as lines, colors, structures, and dynamics, and at the same time metaphorical circulation of the ego, universe, and air. This definition would be a search for a new meaning of Mubism as a relationship from the beginning.
