시인 김태오의 민족운동 양상 연구

국문 초록

김태오는 광주전남 최초의 현대 시인이자 아동문학가다. 그러나 그는 다양한 스펙트럼을 가지고 있는 인물로 문학가로만 규정지을 수 없는 존재감을 갖고 있다. 특히 그가 광주의 인물로서 광주를 중심으로 활동한 항일 민족운동은 문학가로서 보다 앞선 활동이었기 때문에, 그리고 광주학생독립운동 이전의 항일 민족운동이었다는 점은 각별한 의미를 갖는다. 민족운동가였던 김태오는 구체적인 실천에 머문 것뿐만 아니라 그것을 문학적으로 승화시켰다는 데 민족운동의 의미는 더 각별하다. 김태오는 광주가 소년운동의 발상지로서의 위상을 갖게 한 장본인이다. 광주에서 시작된 소년운동은 전국 각지에서 자연발생적으로 소년단체들이 등장하면서 전국적인 소년운동으로 확산되었다. 이에 김태오는 광주에서의 소년운동 경험을 이론적으로 무장한 이론가로 전국 소년단체의 단일조직체인 조선소년연합회의 지도인사가 되었다. 지역의 소년들을 계몽하고 선도하면서 지역사회의 변혁운동을 펼친 그의 소년운동은 소년을 민족의 미래 기표로 상정하고 현실에 눈감지 않은 실천운동이자 일제하 민족운동이었다. 광주기독교청년회의 창립회원이었던 김태오는 광주기독교소년회 회원으로 출발하여 광주기독교청년회의 간부가 되었고, 금정교회의 유치원 교육을 담당하였던 주일학교 교사이기도 하였던 그는 농촌계몽활동과 더불어 숭일학교 교사인 김정련과 함께 비밀결사체를 조직하여 활동하였다. 김태오의 광주기독교청년회 활동은 민족운동의 연장선이었다. 김태오는 신간회 광주지회의 창립회원으로 시작하여 신간회 광주지회의 간부로 활동하였다. 신간회 광주지회는 재만동포옹호동맹을 결성하고 구호활동을 펼쳤으며, 광주학생독립운동을 적극적으로 도왔다. 김태오가 다방면에 걸쳐 펼친 활동은 결국 민족운동으로 수렴된다. 김태오의 민족운동을 확인한 지금 다시 ‘역사를 망각한 민족에게 미래는 없다’는 사실을 상기시키고 있다.

영문 초록

Kim Tae-oh was the first modern poet and a writer of children s literature in Gwangju, Jeonnam Province. However he showed various spectrum of works and cannot be defined as only a writer. Especially he was born in Gwangju and he led the anti-Japan movements before he started his career as a writer. In addition Gwangju anti-Japan movement was prior to Gwangju liberalization movement by young students. National campaign leader kim Tae-oh was not only practiced specific action plan of anti-Japan movement but also sublimate such movement in literature. Kim Tae-oh was the one who enhance Gwangju s status as the starting point of the movement of the youth. Young generations s movement started from Gwangju, and it became nationalized since various youth organization had been formed all over the country. To that extent, Kim Tae-oh became a leader of Chosun youth federation which was the single united organization for youth movement. Enlightening local young generation and guiding them to the local revolution movement realized that young generation as a symbol of nation s future. That was national campaign and at the same time, practical movement that confront reality. The founding member of the Young Men s Christian Association in Gwangju, Kim Tae-oh started from the young member of the group and became a executive member. In addition he was in charge of education of kindergarten in Geumjeong Church and he led rural enlightening campaign also he formed secret association with the teacher of Soongil school, Kim Jeong-yeon. What he achieved at the Christian Association were the extension of national campaign.Kim Tae-oh was also the founder of Shinganhoe, Gwangju branch and the executive member of the group. The organization formed alliance to protect overseas Korean and provided multiple aids, actively helped Gwangju youth movement. Kim Tae-oh left his legacy in national campaign also those activities clearly show that “a nation that forgets its past has no future.”
