국문 초록

국권을 상실한 채 일제의 지배를 받아야 했던 불운한 시대 속에서 수필가 김진섭의 가족들은 어떤 양상 속에 있었는지 밝혀보고자 하였다. 김진섭의 부친 김면수는 나주군수로 일제로부터 훈장을 받는 등 적극적으로 일제에 협력하였고, 형 김영섭 또한 일제치하에서 군수로 일제에 협력하여, 부자가 함께 『친일인명사전』에 등재되었다. 반면 김진섭의 동생 김보섭은 광주학생독립운동의 주역으로 감옥살이와 심한 고문의 후유증으로 해방을 보지 못하고 일찍 세상을 떠났다. 김면수와 김영섭 부자가 일제의 군수를 역임하는 동안, 김보섭은 식민통치를 온몸으로 거부하다 일찍 생을 마감하였고, 그 사이에서 김진섭은 수필가로, 해외문학 연구자로, 도서관의 사서로 침묵하였으며, 막내 동생 김만섭은 일본에 유학하여 의사로 순탄한 삶을 살았다. 일제의 식민치하에서 김진섭의 부친과 형제들의 삶은 순응과 거부의 서사로 점철되었다. 해방과 한국전쟁기의 수필가 김진섭의 삶은 비극의 서사였다. 해방이후 김진섭은 문학인으로, 고등고시위원으로 언론인으로 활발한 활동을 하였지만 한국전쟁 중에 납북됨으로써 남한의 처자식은 불행으로 점철되었다. 한국현대사 속에서 한 가족이 살아온 역사적 행보는 다만 잊혀지지 않는 이름을 다시 부르는 행위에 머물지 않는다. 그의 가족사는 국가 속에서 개인들의 역사가 우리의 미래를 쓰고 있기 때문이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is reveal what condition the author Chin-sop Kim’s family was in during an unfortunate era in which the country was ruled by Japan with a loss of national sovereignty. Myun- su Kim, Chin-sop Kim’s father, who was a military officer of Naju, actively cooperated with the Japanese imperialism, receiving a medal from the Japanese Empire, and his older brother Young-sop Kim also cooperated with the Japanese imperialism as a military officer. They both were listed on the 『Pro-Japanese list』. However, Chin-sop Kim s younger brother, Bo-sop Kim played a leading role in the Gwangju Students Independence Movement and died early without witnessing liberation because of aftereffects of prison life and severe torture. While Myun-su Kim and Young-sop Kim served as Japanese military officers, Bo-sop Kim refused colonization and died early. In the meantime, Chin-sop Kim was silent as an author, an overseas literary scholar, and a librarian and his youngest brother, Man-sop Kim, studied in Japan and lived a smooth life as a doctor. Under the Japanese colonization, Chin-sop Kim’s father and brothers lives were marked as narratives of conformity and denial. The life of Chin-sop Kim, an author of liberation and the Korean War, was a narrative of tragedy. After liberation, Chin-sop Kim was active as a writer, on a higher civil service examination committee, and a journalist, but was abducted to North Korea during the Korean War, so the life of his family in South Korea was a series of hardships. The historical journey of a family in Korean modern history is not limited to the act of recalling an unforgettable name. It is because the history of his family, the individuals in our nation, are writing our future.
