신자유주의 사회의 여성 주체 재현의 가능성과 한계 -영화 <여교사>를 중심으로

국문 초록

본고는 신자유주의가 전지구화된 2010년대에 한국 사회의 젠더적 현실이 신자유주의와 맺고 있는 관계를 영화 <여교사>(2015, 김태용)를 통해 들여다보고자한다. <여교사>는 30대 초반의 중산층 여성이 직장에서의 고용 불안정성과 우정 과 연애, 결혼 등 인간관계의 불가능성 속에서 고통 받는 현실을 그린다. 신자유주의가 개인의 일상에 미치는 영향을 미시적 관점에서 조망하는 것이다. 영화가 재현하는 여성 비정규직 중등교사의 일과 사랑에서의 균열을 젠더적 관점으로 파헤 쳐보기 위해, 본고는 신자유주의 체제 중에서도 ‘유연성’에 초점을 맞춰 그것이가하는 공적인 영역(직업적인 측면)과 사적인 영역(사랑과 연애, 우정, 가족 문제등)에서의 굴곡을 다룰 것이다. 본고는 특히 ‘노동 유연화’가 한 여성, 개인의 삶에 균열을 일으키는 과정을 <여교사>의 텍스트 분석과 함께 추적할 것이다. 그러나 이와 함께 영화의 성과이면서 실패이기도 한 여성 재현의 문제, 즉 여성간의 관계가 권력관계로만 축소되는 현상과 더불어 관객의 보편적 공감을 얻는 데에 실패 한, 극단적으로 개별화된 여성주인공의 성격 묘사와 그녀가 행하는 극한의 선택이라는 한계점에 대해서도 논할 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper looks into the relation between neoliberalism and gendered reality in the Korean society through a South Korean film, Misbehavior (2015, dir. Kim Tae-yong) that reflects the 2010s wherein the globalized neoliberalism has been already the part of the nation. Misbehavior depicts the circumstance where a woman in her early 30s suffers from the job insecurity as well as the incompatibility between work and love/marriage/relationship. The film takes a microscopic view of how neoliberalism affects an individual s everyday life. In this study, I focus on “flexibility” in the neoliberal system to examine its influence on both the public (in terms of career) and the private spheres (love, relationship, family, and so on). In particular, this study explores how the “labor market flexibility” ruptures the life of a woman and individual by textually analyzing Misbehavior. However, it also discusses the accomplishments and at the same time the limitations of a cinematic representation of women: the reduction of a woman s human relationships including love and friendship into power struggles as well as the film s extremely individual depiction of a woman who makes too peculiar choice with her extraordinary character, which fails to be identified as a universal circumstance.
