국문 초록

이 연구는 식민지시기 조선인의 용산 경험과 그 문학적 재현 양상을 재구성하는 데 목적이 있다. 식민지시기 경성의 조선인에게 용산은 타자의 도시공간이었다. 용산이 일본인 중심의 시가지라는 점이 현실적․상상적 수준에서 차이의 지리 를 만들었던 것이다. 그리하여 한국 근대소설에서 용산은 그 인정과 세태를 파악할 수 없는 ‘공간(空間)’으로 나타났다. 식민지시기 대부분의 소설에서 용산은 거의 등장하지 않거나 잠시 스쳐지나가는 정도로만 언급될 뿐이었다. 이때 용산의 장소성을 파악할 수 있는 단서는 거의 주어지지 않았다. 이 연구는 용산의 심상지리를 포착하기 위해서 이중적 전략을 취했다. 우선 용산이 식민지시기 조선인에게 타자의 공간이었다는 점을 존중하여, 이곳이 ‘비일상적인 공간’으로 인식되는 양상을 탐색했다. 또한 한국 근대문학 속에 파편화되어 흩어진 용산에 대한 기술을 수집했다. 즉 조선인 주체에게 용산이 언급되는 상황을 최대한 양적으로 확보하여 그 안의 무의식적 패턴을 재구성했다. 그리하여 이글은 식민지시기의 용산이 ➀피식민자의 원망이 투사되는 공간, ➁여가와 죽음이 교차하는 스펙타클의 경관, ➂시선을 은폐하는 익명성의 공간으로 나타났다는 점을 재구성했다. 이러한 결과는 피식민자와 식민자의 관계에 대해 새로운 성찰을 제시한다. 여기서 피식민자는 식민자가 생산한 공간을 경험하지 못하는 것이 아니라, 전유하거나 새로운 의미를 투사하는 실천을 행했다. 이때 문학은 이러한 탈식민적 공간 실 천이 이루어지는 현장이었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to reconstruct the colonial experience in Yong-san[용산] and its literary representation in the colonial period. In Japanese colonial period, Yong-san was the urban space of the other. In Korean modern novels, Yong-san appeared as a space that can not grasp its recognition and status. In most of the novels in the colonial period, Yong-san was rarely appeared as the background or just passing by for a while. At this time, there is little clue to understand the placeness of Yong-san. This study takes a double strategy to capture the imaginative geography of Yong-san. First of all, this study respects the fact that Yong-san was a space for the other during the colonial period. In addition, this article collected depictions about Yong-san, which was fragmented and scattered in Korean modern literature. In other words, this study collects the description of Yong-san as much as possible and reconstructs the unconscious patterns in it. Thus, this article reconstructed the imagery of Yong-san as a space where the grudge of the colonized was projected, a landscape of the spectacle where leisure and death intersected, and an anonymity space to conceal the gaze. These results suggest a new reflection on the relationship between the colonizer and the colonized. Here, the colonized did not experience the space produced by the settler, but appropriated it. And projected a new meaning. In this context, literature was the scene where this postcolonial practice was performed.
