국문 초록

박태원은 1931년 헤밍웨이의 단편 The Killers를 동아일보에 번역했다. 헤밍웨이는 1927년 이 작품을 창작했으며, 빙산이론을 비롯한 하드보일드 문체의 특징을 고루 반영하고 있다. 박태원은 이 작품의 번역을 통해 소설창작에서 입말체 문장 의 특이성을 십분 살리고 있으며 이후 다른 작품을 창작할 때에도 적극 실현했다. 창작여록-표현․묘사․기교 (조선중앙일보, 1934, 12.17~31)에서는 된소리, 콤마, 여인의 회화 등에서 입말체의 기술방식에 대해 논의하고 있거니와, 박태원은 헤밍웨이 소설의 번역으로 습득한 문체적 특징을 그의 소설에 실현했다. 그는 1930년대 중단편소설에서 인물의 성격창조 방식으로 입말체를 적극적으로 활용했다. 입말체의 대화문은 사건의 전개와 추이에 대한 직접적인 묘사방식으로 작품의 주제를 구현해 낸다. 예컨대 제비 의 경우 찻집에서 일하는 소년의 성실함을 묘사하는 듯 하지만, 경영이 어려운 찻집의 경제적 상황이 묘사되어 있다. 성탄제에서는 언니와 동생, 언니와 부모간의 갈등을 묘사하는 듯 하지만, 1930년대 젊은 여성의 가정경제에 대한 책임감과 고단함을 보여주고 있다. 박태원 소설에서 입말체의 대화는 인물의 성격창조에서부터 사건의 추이과정을 제시하는가 하면, 작품의 주제를 구현하기 위한 구체적인 방법론으로 활용되고 있으며 근대 소설의 완성도를 높이는데 일조했다.

영문 초록

Park Tae-won translated Hemingway’s short story The Killers into the Dong-A Ilbo in 1931. Hemingway created the work in 1927, reflecting the characteristics of hardboiled style, including iceberg theory. Through the translation of the work, he fully captures the peculiarity of the sentence in the novel’s creation, and has since actively realized it when he created other works. Park Tae-won realized the literary features acquired from the translation of Hemingway s novel, while “Creativity, Expression, Descriptions, and Technique” in “Joseon-Joong-Ang Ilbo,” 1934, 12.17-31” “discussed the technical style of mouthpieces in “Dan-sori, Coma and Woman s Painting.” In the 1930s, he actively used the word “mouth” as a way to create the character of a character in a short novel. The conversational text of the word embodies the theme of the work in a direct description of the development and trend of events. For example, “The swallow” seems to describe the sincerity of a boy who works in a teahouse, but the economic situation of a teahouse where management is difficult is described. The “Christan Festival” seems to describe the conflict between her sister and her younger brother and her parents, but it shows a young woman’s sense of responsibility and stubbornness for the family economy of the 1930s. In Park Tae-won’s novel, the word-of-mouth dialogue suggests the process of events from the character creation of characters, and is used as a concrete methodology for embodying the theme of the work and has helped to enhance the perfection of modern novels
