주물유기 제작기법을 통한 테이블웨어 디자인 연구

국문 초록

한국은 전통적으로 금속재 식기가 식문화에 있어서 중요한 위치를 차지해 왔다. 고유의 전통 합금방식(동 78% + 주석 22%)을 따르는 유기는 그중에서도 오랫동안 다양한 용도의 사물로 제작되어 사용되어졌다. 현대에 이르러 다양한 식문화가 소개되고 혼합되어 발전해 나가면서 음식 자체 뿐 만 아니라 이를 위해 사용하는 여러 가지 도구에 대한 관심과 욕구 역시 함께 커졌는데 이러한 흐름 속에서 한국의 전통식기인 유기에 대한 관심도 매우 높아졌다. 최근 개인의 일상 속의 취향과 미의식의 중요성이 주목받기 시작한 것은 매우 고무적인데 그간 전통의 산물 또는 관습적인 도구로만 바라보았던 유기를 새롭게 조명하게 된 것도 이러한 맥락 속에서 가능해졌다고 본다. 이에 본 연구자는 한국문화재재단의 주관으로 진행되었던 무형문화재 주물유기 기능보유자인 김수영 장인과의 협업과정 결과물을 통해 변모하는 현대의 식문화를 반영하여 확장 가능한 유기의 쓰임새와 형태를 제안하고자 한다. 이를 위해 유기의 재료적인 특성과 전통제작기법을 고찰하였고, 제작연구에 있어서는 식탁 위에서 사용하는 기물로 한정하여 진행하였다. 그리고 기존의 세트로 구성된 한식반상기와는 달리 사용자의 필요에 따라 선택하고 자유로운 구성을 할 수 있도록 다양한 크기의 대접과 잔, 숟가락, 데움기, 촛대 등 단품 위주의 식사도구를 제작하였다. 형태를 결정하는데 있어서는 다른 식기들과의 조합을 고려하여 가급적 단순한 형태를 취하고자 하였다. 디자인의 전개과정은 본 연구자의 드로잉과 실물 크기의 종이 또는 금속재 모델링 과정을 거쳤으며 이후 김수영 장인의 주물제작과정을 통해 최종적인 완성이 이루어졌다. 전통적인 금속재 식기인 유기에 현대적인 해석을 더한 이번 연구를 통해 유기의 기능적, 심미적 장점을 알리고 앞으로 더 많은 연구와 개발이 이루어지게 되는 밑거름이 되기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

The metal tableware has traditionally occupied an important position in the Korean food culture. The YUGI(Brass ware) following the inherent traditional alloy method(bronze 78% +tin 22%) has been made and used as the object of various uses for a long time. As various food cultures have been introduced, mixed, and developed in modern times, the concern and desire for different tools used for the food have increased; the research and development on the YUGI are being conducted actively in accordance with this flow. It is very inspiring that the individual taste in everyday life and the importance of the aesthetic consciousness begin to receive attention. It is possible in this context to shed new light on the YUGI which has been considered as the traditional fruit or conventional tool. Hereby, this researcher would suggest the use and form of the expandable YUGI by reflecting the modern food culture that changes through the result of the cooperation process with intangible cultural asset Sooyoung Kim, casting YUGI technician, which was conducted under the sponsor of Korean Cultural Asset Foundation. The ingredient nature and the traditional production technique of the YUGI were considered for this and the object used on the table was used for the production study. Unlike the Korean dinner set, the tableware such as various sizes of dishes, spoons, cups, candlestick, and warmer was made for users to choose according to their need and constitute freely. In deciding the shape, the simple form was chosen considering the combination with other tableware. When it comes to the real production process, this researcher’s drawing, life-size paper, and metallic modeling were produced, and then the stuff was finally completed through the casting production process by craftsman Sooyoung Kim. Through this study adding the modern interpretation to the YUGI , the traditional metallic tableware, it is expected the functional and aesthetic advantage of the YUGI will be informed and more studies and development will be carried out.
