<사씨남정기>의 꿈속 人物과 서사적 機能

국문 초록

이 논문은 <사씨남정기>에 나타난 꿈속 인물을 중심으로 인물의 유형과 서사적 기능에 대해 고찰하였다. 그 내용을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, <사씨남정기>에 나타난 꿈속 인물의 유형은 크게 지독지애형 인물, 질풍경초형 인물, 관음화행형 인물로 나눌 수 있다. 꿈속 인물들은 주인공과 주변 인물들에게 현몽하 여 위기에 처한 상황과 미래에 대처해야 할 일에 대해 구체적으로 알려주어 위기상황을 극복해 나갈 수 있도록 도와준다. 이러한 점에서 꿈속 인물들은 조력자적 역할뿐만 아니라 사건을 전개해 나가는 서사적 기능을 담당하고 있다. 둘째, <사씨남정기>는 중국 고사 속 인물인 순임금의 두 왕비, 장강, 반첩여를 통해 사씨의 처지와 지고지순하면서도 강인한 성품을 우회적으로 표출시켰다. 또한 관음화행형 인물을 통해 어려움에 처한 중생을 구제하는 자비의 인물로, 자식을 사랑하는 지독지애형 인물은 유교이념에 기반을 둔 여성상으로 의미를 부여해 꿈속 등장인물의 상징화를 이루어냈다. 더 나아가 다양한 사건과 인물을 통해 선의 추구와 사필귀정의 삶의 진리를 담았다. 셋째, 문학적으로도 꿈을 통해 주인공이 겪는 고난의 극복을 중세적인 안일한 방법으로 해결하기보다는 근대적인 합리성을 전제하여 사건을 해결하고 있다는 점에서 그 의의가 크다고 할 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라 사회적으로 유교적 가부장제 질서가 확립되어 가던 시기의 상황에서 소극적인 삶의 자세에서 벗어나 현실에 대응해 나가는 강인한 여성의식을 적절히 반영하였다는 점에서 문학적 의미를 찾을 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper is to study the types of characters in dreams from < Sassinamjunggi > and the narrative functions. They are summarized as follows. First, the characters in dreams from < Sassinamjunggi > can be largely categorized into three types: character with parental love, character with determination, and merciful character. In a series of events revolving around Sassi and Yeon-soo Yoo in the multi-frame structure, the characters appear in dreams to help the main and supporting characters to overcome their crisis. In this regard, the characters in dreams not only play the role of helper, but also serve the narrative function of unfolding the story. Second, < Sassinamjunggi > implies the noble and pure but strong personality of Sassi through E Huang and Nu Ying who were two wives of the emperor of Shun Dynasty in Chinese mythology. Besides, this literature symbolizes, through the merciful character, the gracious figure helping the people in trouble and through the character with parental love, the image of woman based on the ideology of Confucianism and the character in her dream at the same time. In other words, the character with parental love, the character with determination, and the merciful character have individual symbolic value, show the personality of Sassi indirectly, and embody the theme of this novel. Third, from a literary perspective, the dreams adequately reflect the mindset of the woman, the main character, being assertive and taking the initiative in overcoming difficulties, rather than solving them with medieval complacency. Especially, it has great literary value in terms of solving cases based on modern rationality.
