18세기 후반 정조 초엽, 이방익의 <홍리가>에 나타난 유배 체험과 인식 고찰

국문 초록

이 글에서는 18세기 후반, 정조 대에 중추도사였던 이방익의 <홍리가>를 독해하고 작품 속에 드러나는 의식 지향을 검토하였다. 1783년에 창작된 이 작품 속에는 유배자로서 이방익이 겪은 삶의 고통과 시련이 비교적 솔직하게 거론되고 있으면서도 전대의 사대부 유배가사와는 다른 점도 드러내고 있다. 이런 점에서 작품은 개별적인 독자성과 함께 조선후기 가사로서의 변모의 모습도 드러내고 있다 할 것이다. 이방익은 정치적인 맥락에서 조선의 관료 사회에서 서반의 말직을 역임하였고 가장 비주류적인 위치에 놓여 있었다. 그는 1782년에 노론 청류였던 이택징의 반역 사건에 연루되어서 남해의 고도인 구자도로 유배를 떠나 <홍리가>를 창작했다. 논지를 전개하는 과정에서는 주로 <홍리가>에 나타나는 유배지의 현실을 상세하게 고찰하고 작자가 유배의 공간을 어떻게 인식하였는지를 정밀하게 고찰해 보았다. 관의 힘이 미치는 공간 속에서 화자는 복종과 경멸의 태도를 함께 취하고 있었으며, 민의 공동체 내부에서는 동화되지 못했지만 백성의 고통에 대해서는 연민을 드러내었다. 작자의 이러한 이중적인 태도는 이 유배지를 체제 외부의 장소로 인식하고 있기 때문이었다. 더욱이 왕의 교화가 미치지 못하는 곳으로 인식하고 그것에 대한 아쉬움과 절망감을 작품 속에서 토로하였다. 결과적으로 작자가 원하는 바는 자신의 일상으로 돌아가는 것이었다. 이 일상이란 왕은 왕의 윤리를 지키고 신하는 신하의 윤리를 지키는 태평성대였다. 특히 이 시기에 정조 역시 왕이 주도하는 공론(公論)을 사대부 전체 사회에서 수용시키려고 하였다. 그런데 <홍리가> 속에서 작자는 이러한 성왕(聖王)의 존재를 인식하고 있지만, 연군 의식을 전대에 비해 강력하게 드러내고 있지는 않다. 그보다는 오히려 사친(事親)의 정서를 작품의 전면으로 부각시켰다. 이때 연군의 정서는 전대의 유배가사 속에 구현되는 것과는 이질적이었고, 이것이 전대의 사대부 가사와는 다른 지점이 되었다.

영문 초록

This article read < Hongriga > of Lee Bang‐ik, who was Jungchudosa at King Jeongjo in the late 18th century, and examined his propensity of consciousness that appears in the works. In this work, which was created in 1783, Lee Bang‐ik s life suffering and trials as an exiled person is relatively straightforward, but it is also different from the previous Exile‐gasa of the Literati. In this respect, the work also reveals the individual identity and transformation as Gasa in late Joseon. Lee Bang‐ik served as Seoban s petty office in the political bureaucratic society of Joseon and was in the center position of nonmainstreamers. In 1782, he was involved in the rebellion of Lee Taek‐jing, who was a Cheongryu of Norron, and went for the exile in Gujado, a remote island of the southern sea, to create < Hongriga >. In this study, we examined the reality of exile place appearing in < Hongriga > in detail and examined precisely how the author perceived the space of exile. In the work, in the space where the power of authority is, the speaker was taking attitude of submission and contempt at the same time, and inside the community of people, though not assimilated, they showed compassion for the suffering of the people. This double attitude of the author was because he recognized this exile place as the place outside the system. Moreover, he recognized that the enlightenment of the king was insufficient, and expressed his regret and despair in his work. As a result, what the author eventually wanted to do was to return to his everyday life. This everyday life was a peaceful reign where the king keeps the ethics and the servants keep their ethics. Especially at this time, Jeongjo also tried to accommodate the king‐led public opinion in the whole society of the Literati. In < Hongriga >, however, the author perceives the existence of this sage king, but does not reveal the yearning for the King more strongly than before. Rather, he raised the emotions of the serving parents to the front of the work. At this time, the emotion of yearning for the King was dissimilar from that of the former Exile‐ gasa, and this became a different point from the Literati Gasa before.
