국문 초록

이 연구는 A. N. Whitehead의 유기체 철학과 그의 교육적 사유에서 일관되게 나타나는 리듬의 성격을 밝히고 그것이 교육내용 선정과 교육내용 조직의 준거에 주는 시사점을 밝히는 데 그 목적이 있다. 리듬은 모든 생명체에 존재하는 근원적 원리이며 유기체가 생명을 유지하는 가장 안정된 방법으로 이 리듬을 통해 생은 반복되고 생의 피로를 제거할 수 있다. 유기체 철학에서 모든 존재는 다른 존재와의 관계를 통해 생성 중에 있는 존재이며, 그 관계의 양상은 다른 모습으로 진행되는 일정한 패턴을 가지고 있다. 이런 점에서 유기체 철학은 리듬의 철학이라고 할 수 있다. 또한 리듬은 모든 교과와 모든 학생에게 적용될 수 있는 가장 자연스러운 지적 성장의 과정이다. 리듬의 특성으로 ‘주기성’, ‘창조성’, ‘관계성’, ‘양극성’ 네 가지를 제시하였다. 그리고 지적 성장을 낭만의 단계-정확의 단계-일반화의 단계를 하나의 단위로 하여 진행되는 리듬의 특성을 지니고 있으며 이 지적 성장의 리듬을 지배하는 두 가지 원리가 자유와 규율이다. 교육내용 선정의 준거로서 삶과의 관련성, 살아있는 일반적인 아이디어, 흥미와 향유, 지적 정확성, 지식의 활용 다섯 가지를 제시하였다. 그리고 리듬의 네 가지 특성인 주기성, 창조성, 관계성, 양극성은 교육내용 조직의 원리로 고찰하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of the study is to find out some implications that A. N. Whitehead\ s rhythm have for selection of educational content and organization of educational content. To understand the philosophic background of rhythm, the definition of organic philosophy, its conditions, its method, and its limitation were investigated. Also four characteristics of rhythm, that is, the characteristics of ‘period’, ‘creativity’, ‘relation’, and ‘diplorarity’ were investigated. Furthermore the rhythm of ‘intellectual development’, and ‘freedom and discipline’ were investigated. The philosophy of organism can be said the philosophy of rhythm. Rhythm is the best way all entities keep their lives in satisfactory state. And rhythm is the only abstract formula which can be applied to all students and their learning of all subject-matters. The implications of rhythm for understanding educational content were investigated. To begin with, as the criteria of selecting educational contents, ‘the relevance of student\ s life’, ‘living and general idea’, ‘interest and enjoyment’, ‘intellectual rigidity’, and ‘the practical use of knowledge’ were investigated. Then as the organization criteria of educational contents, the characteristics such as ‘period’, ‘creativity’, ‘relation’, and ‘diplorarity’ were suggested. Rhythm is the essential nature of all entities and the only abstract formula which can be applied to all kinds of students and all kinds of subject matter. Rhythm, then, should be the key concept for all the concerned with education to understand educational thoughts and educational practice. And the selection and organization of educational contents are taken into consideration to select living and general ideas and organize them in the right of learner\ s rhythm of intellectual development. Therefore to help and guide learner\ s study, teachers need to give their all attentions to understand the structure of educational contents as well as learner\ s psychological structure. Besides the process of teaching and learning can be considered as the process of helping and guiding learner\ s intellectual development. In this sense, the process of teaching and learning should be suited for learner\ s rhythm of intellectual development.
